Hewlett Packard is increasing the pace of its acquisition activity. Hans Lidforss, vice president for strategy and corporate development at HP's technology solutions group, said, "It's a dynamic landscape right now and we see a lot of targets."
HP has typically completed from10 to 20 acquisitions per year. Lidforss (pictured at right) forecasted during a panel on exits held at the TieCon 2006 Conference that the final tally in 2006 would fall in the high end of that range. He added that 80% of the company's acquisitions typically are done by the TSG group, which is HP's enterprise business. The other 20% of deal activitiy is done by HP's printing and PC units. Lidforss said most of HP's acquisitions will continue to be relatively large because it's the only way for the deals to have an impact on the entire company, which recorded $86 billion in revenue last year.
That's good news for venture capitalists.
