News resurfaced this week that online auction leader eBay is in talks to buy
Web-surfing review site
StumbleUpon for
roughly $75 million,
Reuters
said Tuesday, citing an unnamed source.
TechCrunch and
GigaOm reported on April 18
that eBay was in talks to acquire the startup, which is funded by Google Inc.
and other high-tech stars, including Josh Kopelman, founder of Half.com, which
was acquired by eBay in 2000, Reuters said. StumbleUpon Inc. recommends Web
pages within sites like MySpace and YouTube, and says it has 2.3 million
users. In February, San Jose-based eBay acquired event ticket reseller
StubHub, for $307 million, according
TheDeal.com
reported. —Cheryl Meyer
