Microsoft makes second healthcare acquisition

After buying 22 startups in 12 months last fiscal year, Microsoft is adding to its shopping list in the current fiscal year with healthcare related startups. Today, the company said it has acquired Medstory, a healthcare search engine. Last year, it acquired Azyyxi, a consumer health portal.

Companies are seeing an opportunity to help organize people's medical information by using web-based tools. Google is exploring a Google Health portal while information startups such as Revolution Health and the HealthCentral Network and search startups such as Healthline have also entered this space. Microsoft sees promise here too and will be acquiring to make itself competitive.
