ChannelAdvisor Corp. of Research Triangle Park, N.C., has secured $20 million in a funding led by New Enterprise Associates of Baltimore. Prior investors Advanced Technology Ventures of Palo Alto, Calif., Kodiak Venture Partners of Waltham, Mass., eBay Inc. of San Jose, Calif., and Southern Capital Ventures of Raleigh, N.C., also contributed. ChannelAdvisor helps companies and individuals use online marketplaces.

Israeli Internet startup SemantiNet Ltd. has received $3.4 million in Series A funding to bankroll a global product launch in late September. The company has developed semantic Web software that it claims integrates crowd-sourcing, cross-platform multimedia and integrated browser functionality. Investors include Israel-based Giza Venture Capital and angels Ronald Cohen, Joseph Vardi and Jeff Pulver.
WildBlue
Denver-based WildBlue Communications Inc., a provider of broadband Internet via satellites, has completed a $50 million equity financing. The round was led by Liberty Media Corp. of Englewood, Colo., Intelsat of Washington D.C., the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative of Herndon, Va., and Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers of Menlo Park, Calif. The proceeds will fund WildBlue's customer equipment leasing program and allow the company to expand its customer care and field service operations. WildBlue provides broadband Internet access to consumers and small offices in rural areas in the U.S., where digital subscriber line or cable broadband services often are not available.

Cambridge, Mass.-based software radio company Vanu Inc. closed on a $32 million venture capital investment. Norwest Venture Partners of Palo Alto, Calif., led the round joined by previous investor Charles River Ventures of Boston and Tata Capital of Mumbai. The money will be used for business development and expansion of the company's presence in India through increased staffing and the signing of strategic partnerships. Founded in 1998, Vanu's software-only radio technology operates on both code division multiple access and global system for mobile communications standards. The company was awarded the first-ever Federal Communications Commission certification for a software-defined radio system.

Fonality
Integrated communications startup Fonality Inc. has raised $12 million in third-round venture funding. The Los Angeles company received the new backing from lead funder Draper Fisher Jurvetson of Menlo Park along with Intel Capital of Santa Clara, Calif. Azure Capital Partners of San Francisco had funded the company in a previous round. Fonality has raised $24 million overall in angel and venture capital. The four-year-old startup sells technology to small and midsize businesses that allows them to meld different communications platforms, including conventional wirelines, mobile network, e-mail, instant messaging, voicemail and even customer relationship management software. -- Andrea Orr

Chicago-based Vibes Media has received an undisclosed amount of Series A funding from Boston's Fidelity Ventures. Dave Power, a partner at Fidelity Ventures, will serve on Vibes' board. Launched in 1998, the mobile device marketing company will use the investment for acquisitions and R&D for new products.

Montreal-based Inscape Software Inc., formerly HR Alloy, has completed a $7 million Series B funding. The round was led by Quebec-based Solidarity Fund QFL, joined by Canadian insiders Rho Canada Ventures LP, Rho Investment Partners Canada LP and Garage Technology Ventures Canada LP. The proceeds will enable Inscape to further develop its software, which is designed to allow organizations to make tests for job candidates.

Pathwork Diagnostics
Sunnyvale, Calif.-based molecular diagnostics company Pathwork Diagnostics Inc. has closed a $20 million financing led by Abingworth of London. Existing investors Prospect Venture Partners of Palo Alto, Calif., Advent Venture Partners of London, Novus Ventures of Cupertino, Calif., Venrock Associates of Palo Alto and Versant Ventures of Menlo Park, Calif., also participated. The money will be used for commercialization of the company's lead medical device, the Pathwork Tissue of Origin Test. The device, used for diagnosis of tumors of uncertain origin, has already received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance.

Micro-device maker Microfabrica Inc. has closed a $22.5 million second round. The funding was co-led by Versant Venture Management LLC and InterWest Partners LLC, both of Menlo Park, Calif. Also participating were Draper Fisher Jurvetson of Menlo Park, DynaFund Ventures of Torrance, Calif., Chevron Technology Ventures LLC of Houston and Partech International of San Francisco. Van Nuys, Calif.-based Microfabrica has raised more than $45 million to date. The nine-year-old company, which develops micro- and millimeter-scale mechanical devices, will use the new funds to increase its presence in the medical device area and to expand product capacity in its electronics and defense businesses. The company's micro-fabrication technology creates three-dimensional micron-precision metal structures that can be used in various devices.
