Google makes search personal

  Share     E-Mail    Discussion    Print Story

Google launched its latest product today, Google Co-op. Co-op is a customizable search engine, meaning users can create a search engine to search any number of specific sites. I created one which will search the entire Deal Blogs Network, try it out below:

TechCrunch has a good breakdown of the service, and compares it with similar products from Yahoo!, Rollyo and Eurekster. When you create a search a homepage is created for it, and it also spits out code that you can use to put the search directly on your site. Google has also tied Co-op into Adsense, which allows the user to share in revenues. Eurekster also offers this service, but Yahoo! and Rollyo do not.

Co-op is probably an improvement over the out-of-the-box search engines most blogging softwares come with, and independent bloggers may also be able squeeze a few pennies out of their search engine, which can't hurt. It's also a way for Google users to create their own vertical search engines. All told, a good offering from Google. I'm already thinking about which sites I'll include in my customized sports search. — Brian Ward
