Company: SocialMedia Networks
Description: Ad network for social networks
Competitors: RockYou, Slide
Location: Mill Valley, CA
Amount Raised: $3.5 million
Round: First
Date Announced: 10/17/07
VC Firms: Charles River Ventures
VC Directors: George Zachary
Quick Take: There had to be a business to be made out of the socialmedia.com URL. This isn't a bad one. The company's goal is to build an advertising network on Facebook, MySpace and other social networks by bringing application developers and advertisers together. RockYou and Slide are succeeding by building the applications themselves. SocialMedia is offering a platform where independent application developers can manage and monetize their creations easily. If you believe the Facebook economy will eventually rival the eBay one in magnitude, then SocialMedia will thrive. - Joshua Jaffe
