On Tuesday, Tech Confidential
identified
casual game maker WildTangent Inc., developer of the "Fate" fantasy game, as a
perfect target for Microsoft as a means to support its MSN Web site. Tuesday
night at E3, when Microsoft unveiled new casual games and a special controller
specifically designed to play them on the Xbox 360, it lent more credence to
the concept. WildTangent's vast library of games would help Microsoft stay a
step ahead of rivals Nintendo of America Inc. and Sony Corp., who are both
entering the casual game segment with their consoles. Microsoft's new
controller, which resembles a game show buzzer, shows the company's dedication
to the casual game market, and a WildTangent buyout would solidify its lead in
the segment. —Matthew Wurtzel
