New York-based startup Pegworks Inc. has introduced ConcertAttack.com, a social network for fans of live music. Although it claims to be the first of its kind, ConcertAttack shares a lot of features with SongKick, SonicLiving and other live music social networks. JamBase, Last.fm and iLike also offer concert-tracking services among other utilities.
According to founding chief executive Jason Cohen, ConcertAttack isn't so much about planning to attend live music events as it is about archiving them for posterity. Fans are invited to post reviews and photos after the fact, creating a sort of user-generated tour journal as artists travel around. Similarly, SonicLiving carries a Flickr feed that delivers photos of shows in which a user has previously shown interest or attended, and people have been known to post short show reviews too, although that site is still generally more geared toward bringing likeminded fans and friends together at shows.
ConcertAttack may be all about the post-show experience, but it's still going to rely on advance ticket sales for a significant portion of its revenue. Online advertising will supply additional income, and Cohen says the company is exploring other options as well. Pegworks has been bootstrapped thus far, but is seeking to bring in a Series A round that will likely come from strategic investors rather than VCs, Cohen says. -- Paul Bonanos
