Former AOL chairman and CEO Steve Case has invested in Hungry Machine Inc., the publisher of LivingSocial.com, a social media startup that enables users to post reviews and opinions about music, film, books, games, restaurants and beer. The company's $5 million Series A round also includes mid-Atlantic-focused firm Grotech Ventures. Case invested alongside his wife Jean, the CEO of the couple's Case Foundation.
LivingSocial is designed to connect with social networks such as Facebook Inc., MySpace Inc., Bebo, Google Inc.'s Orkut and Hi5 Networks Inc. Its network of sites includes the music-oriented TuneSocial, which helps users publish and rate their music collections, as well as preview songs from their friends'. The company's other themed sites include ReelSocial for films, DiningSocial for restaurants, BrewSocial for beer, ReadingSocial for books and GamingSocial for games.
