brightstorm.jpgKorean venture firm KTB Ventures has provided $6 million in first-round funding to Brightstorm Inc., a San Francisco-based startup that creates educational videos for college-bound students. Among Brightstorm's three co-founders is Bum Soo Kim, a principal at KTB who has led the firm's investments in wireless communications, consumer electronics, and Internet media companies including Magnum Semiconductor Inc.

For about $50 annually per course, Brightstorm offers access to online video lessons that explain principles of science, government, mathematics and other subjects, including programs designed for advanced placement courses and SAT preparation. The lively videos incorporate music, humor and interactivity in an effort to keep teens engaged.

Based in Seoul with a satellite office in Palo Alto, Calif., KTB maintains investments in about three dozen companies, according to its Web site. -- Paul Bonanos
