GameDuell takes $17.5M second round

gameduell.gifEuropean venture firm Wellington Partners said it had invested more than €11 million ($17.5 million) in German startup GameDuell, a creator of online video games that delivers cash prizes to participants. Founded and launched in 2003, GameDuell previously raised a Series A round of undisclosed size from Holtzbrinck Ventures and Burda Digital Ventures, both of Munich, in 2004. The Berlin-based startup, which already maintains a second office in the Bay Area, is planning to continue its international expansion into other European countries and the U.S.

GameDuell's offerings include solitaire, mah-jongg, Sudoku, pool and darts games. The company employs 80 people, and says it currently supports 10 million game players. -- Paul Bonanos
