ifbyphone.jpgChicago-based telephony applications developer Ifbyphone has drawn a new $4.6 million second round of funding from area investors, expanding its syndicate to five firms. (See pdf version of the news release here.) Although three new investors backed Ifbyphone in its new round, none was a co-leader. Prior backers Apex Venture Partners and Origin Ventures served that role, 15 months after supplying $2.75 million in Series A money to the startup. The new investors in the Series B were Spring Mill Venture Partners, the Illinois Innovation Accelerator Fund and Blue Crest Capital Finance LP, all based in the greater Chicago area.

Ifbyphone develops voice and telephony apps for the small and medium-sized business markets. Using its applications, enterprises can embed call buttons on Web sites, in e-mails and on social networking pages, or simplify conference calls through an outbound calling function. Ifbyphone also introduced its second application for Apple Inc.'s [AAPL] iPhone (see pdf here) last week.
