HourTown, which offers online scheduling and marketing services for small businesses, on Tuesday said it reaped a $1 million round from Baseline Ventures, Hatch Ventures and NBC Universal, plus several Silicon Valley angels.
The company was founded in March by Ryan Donahue, a former PayPal design and research executive who came up with the idea for HourTown while doing field research inside homes and small businesses. He pithily describes HourTown's service as "Web 2.0 for your yoga instructor."
The company didn't identify its angel investors, but did mention the involvement of early investors in PayPal and Google Inc. [GOOG]
As noted by VentureBeat, HourTown is one of growing handful of Web scheduling startups that are drawing interest from VCs. Dentist and doctor appointment scheduler ZocDoc today announced it has raised a $3 million Series A led by Khosla Ventures. - Olaf de Senerpont Domis
