Mobile browser developer Skyfire Labs Inc. has raised $13 million in second round funding led by Lightspeed Venture Partners of Menlo Park, Calif. Also participating were previous investors Matrix Partners of Waltham, Mass., and Trinity Ventures of Menlo Park. The company will use the funds to continue rolling out its flagship browser. Jake Seid, a managing director at Lightspeed, also has joined the board of directors. The Mountain View, Calif., company said its mobile browser is designed to make the mobile Web experience as close to the PC browsing experience as possible. Skyfire previously raised $4.8 million from Trinity Ventures and Matrix Partners.

New York advertising analytics software company [x+1] Inc. recapitalized with a $16 million round led by Technology Ventures of Waltham, Mass. The round included previous investors Blue Chip Venture Co. of Cincinnati and Hudson Ventures of New York, and is expected to take the nine-year-old company to profitability. The deal brings total investment in the company to about $30 million. The new money will enable the company to expand sales of software to consumer companies for optimizing and personalizing their own Web sites, and to aggressively expand in the market for paid search, working with advertising agencies and online advertising networks.
Ontela
Ontela Inc., a Seattle provider of camera-phone picture-saving technology, has secured $10 million in new funding from Steamboat Ventures of Los Angeles. Also participating were existing investors Hunt Ventures of Dallas, Oak Investment Partners of Westport, Conn., and Voyager Capital of Seattle. The funding enables the company to increase its product line and expand internationally. Ontela provides technology for getting pictures from camera phones easily. The company's service automatically saves each picture on a camera phone to the user's PC, e-mail, and-or favorite Web sites. Ontela raised $4.5 million in November 2006.
xtract
Social advertising intelligence startup Xtract has raised a ยค3.5 million ($5.5 million) round from Creandum of Stockholm and existing investor Eqvitec Partners of Helsinki, Finland. Xtract develops technology designed to make advertising in social media and mobile more effective. Based in Helsinki and London, the company operates in Europe and Asia for telecoms such as Nokia Oyj, T-Mobile and Vodafone plc.
DataArt
DataArt Enterprises Inc., a New York software outsourcing provider, has secured a $4 million investment, and has plans to add another $2 million later this year. Tower Gate Capital of London led the deal. DataArt develops software applications for customers in such financial-services fields as asset management and hedge fund administration, using outsourced programmers in Eastern Europe. Founded in 1997, the company will use the capital for sales and marketing efforts and to support geographic expansion of its delivery capabilities in Eastern Europe.

Surf Canyon
Surf Canyon Inc. of Oakland, Calif., has closed its initial seed round with $600,000 in funding from individual investors from San Francisco, New England, Paris and London. The proceeds will be used for product development of the company's Discovery Engine for Search, which accelerates the search process on Google Inc., Yahoo! Inc. and MSN Live. The capital will also go toward expanding the company's management team and launching a marketing campaign designed to introduce the product to more users. Surf Canyon develops real-time implicit personalization technology for Internet search.
