eventful.03.jpgStill independent three years after its chief rival Upcoming.org was acquired by Yahoo Inc., local event information distributor Eventful Inc. has taken in a new Series C round of funding that includes the venture arm of Spanish telco Telefonica SA. Re-upping in Eventful's new $10 million round were prior investors Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Bay Partners, which had previously participated in two rounds worth at least $9.6 million.

Four-year-old Eventful says it has 8 million users globally. The company continues to roll out new mobile initiatives, including an iPhone application, as well as Web-based services. Eventful added a concert tracker late last month, and announced a partnership with Ticketmaster alongside the new funding. -- Paul Bonanos
