Advent buys 50% of Brazilian container terminal

Container_125x100.jpgAdvent International LLC has acquired 50% of Terminal de Contêineres de Paranaguá SA, Brazil's third-largest container port terminal. The value of the transaction and other financial terms were not disclosed. TCP's current shareholders -- Pattac Empreendimentos e Participações S/A, TUC Participações Portuárias S/A, Soifer Participações Societárias Ltda., Grup Maritim TCB SL and Galigrain SA -- will retain ownership positions in the company.

The new equity will be used to fund an expansion plan aimed at increasing its terminal capacity by about 70% through the construction of a third berth and purchase of new equipment. Port terminal operator Grup Maritim TCB will continue to provide advisory services to the company.

TCP, founded in 1998, operates the container terminal at the Port of Paranaguá, the second-largest port in Brazil. Banco Bradesco BBI SA, Barbosa, Müssnich & Aragão Advogados and TozziniFreire Advogados advised Advent on the acquisition. TCP was advised by Banco Santaner SA, Souza, Cescon, Avedissian, Barrieu e Flesch Advogados and EBM Advogados. -- Vyvyan Tenorio
