John Blakeley is an editor overseeing middle-market coverage as well as consumer products, retail and sports. As editor of middle-market coverage, He supervises a group of reporters who write about middle-market companies, defined as companies with market caps of $50 million to $1 billion, while also assigning and editing features. Working with executive editor Jeff Kanige, Blakeley also oversees production of The Daily Deal.
John started at The Deal LLC in 2006 as a bankruptcy reporter specializing in debtor-in-possession financings. In addition to penning the DIP Dimensions column, he has covered some of the most prominent Chapter 11 filings. Before joining The Deal, John worked in Fordham University's media relations office.

Previously, he served as a partner at McCown De Leeuw & Co. and, before that, he served in investment banking with McDonald & Company in Cleveland and as a consultant with McKinsey & Company.

Robert Filek is a senior managing director and the global leader of the transaction advisory services group of the FTI Corporate Finance practice and is based in Chicago. Filek has more than 24 years of experience and has been involved in some of the most complicated acquisitions, divestitures and joint venture transactions in recent history, advising in both the private equity and corporate arenas.
Filek has expertise in strategic evaluation; financial and accounting due diligence; transaction structuring; working capital adjustments; complex accounting matters; merger integration and performance improvement. His deal experience includes advising on more than 300 transactions globally, representing buyers, sellers and lenders.
Filek has extensive industry experience in consumer products and retail. recently served as senior vice president, business development and mergers and acquisitions, for LexisNexis. In that role he had global responsibility for all corporate development activities (acquisitions, divestitures, equity investments and alliances). Frankel has experience
in several sectors including business services, market research and data analytics, B2B content and data, and enterprise software. Before joining LexisNexis, Frankel served in senior positions at Information Resources Inc., GE Capital and VeriSign Inc. as well as Merrill Lynch & Co.'s investment banking group and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP as an attorney.
Frankel serves on the board of directors of Onvia Inc. (a data and lead vendor to business government contractors), the board of directors of HolaDoctor (a Hispanic-focused health information media business), the advisory board of Target Data Inc. (a venture-backed technology-based direct-marketing company) and the advisory board of GeoIQ (a venture-backed geo-data and visualization company) as well as on the alumni board of governors of the University of Chicago. Frankel earned a B.A. in political science, an M.A. in international relations, an M.B.A. and a Juris Doctorate all from the University of Chicago.
