Credit Suisse Group recruited Junya Tani from UBS Securities Japan Ltd. to launch its own private banking operations in Japan by year's end. Tani will arrive in Tokyo on July 22 from UBS, where he was head of wealth management for Japan. Previously, he worked for Citigroup Inc., most recently as head of product development in the private banking division. Tani began his career at the Bank of Tokyo in 1981.
Credit Suisse also launched operations in Pakistan through its subsidiary, Credit Suisse Pakistan (Private) Ltd., based in Karachi. It will initially offer equity research and research sales to institutional clients, and eventually full brokering-dealing services. Director Farid Khan will lead those efforts.
Broadpoint Capital Inc. hired Richard NeJame as a managing director in its recapitalization and restructuring group. He worked at Alex. Brown & Sons before helping establish the restructuring advisory group at Lazard, where he worked for 8 years. Most recently, NeJame was a managing director in the investment banking division of Imperial Capital LLC.
MKP Capital Management LLC tapped three senior investment professionals.
Jason Bonanca, director and senior economic adviser, is focused on global fixed income and foreign exchange opportunities, and is responsible for macroeconomic analysis and research. He joins from Credit Suisse Group, where he was chief strategist in the FX research and strategy team.
Steven Gordon, managing director and portfolio manager, leads efforts in the commercial mortgage-backed securities market. Gordon spent 10 years at Bear Stearns Cos., most recently as a managing director responsible for CMBS credit trading, CMBS derivatives and a joint CMBS venture with Bear's financing group.
Richard Lightburn, managing director and portfolio manager, leads relative value trading opportunities in liquid mortgage securities. He arrives from HSBC Securities USA. Before that, Lightburn was with Goldman, Sachs & Co. for 15 years.

Joseph Vaccaro serves as vice president of nonagency trading, a division he led at Merrill Lynch & Co. Previously, he ran the agency hybrid adjustable rate mortgage business at Bear Stearns Cos. Robert Hunter arrives as a vice president. He was chief credit officer for Countrywide Bank until 2004.
W.J. Bradley Co. appointed James Hagen as its controller. Hagen was with Flagstone Lending Group and was previously chief financial officer for Allied Home Mortgage.
Dykema Gossett PLLC made Charles Marvin office managing member of its Washington office. He replaces Stephen Zimmerman, who will focus on expanding the institutional insurance practice. Marvin is head of the firm's government contacts practice.
Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP said Gary Distell joined the firm as a partner in the financial services practice, based in New York. Distell was a senior managing director in the legal department of Bear Stearns Cos. Before that, Distell spent four years as an investigator in the NASD's market regulation department.
McCarter & English LLP announced that James Scantling joined its Hartford, Conn., office as a partner in the corporate securities practice group, working with the corporate trust departments of banks. Formerly a partner with Bingham McCutchen LLP, Scantling covers financing transactions, including leveraged and other leases and financings of equipment and facilities and other structured financings, both domestic and cross border.
