Movers & shakers: Aug. 12, 2008

Roger Yoerges, a 20-year veteran of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, will become a partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP in Washington. Yoerges will join the litigation department and head the firm's products liability, pharmaceutical and mass tort litigation practice.

Credit Suisse Group brought in Sughosh Moharikar and Samita Shah as managing directors of its investment banking department, based in Mumbai. In addition, Ashim Ahuja will join as a director of the investment banking team.

Moharikar will handle merger and acquisition advisory activities in India. Moharikar joins CS from Kotak Mahindra Group, where he worked for 14 years, most recently as executive director and head of M&A. Shah will focus on emerging large-cap client coverage. She hails from Lehman Brothers Inc., where she was a managing director and co-head of the Asia special situations team in India. Before that, Shah worked for J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and ICICI Securities.

Ahuja will cover clients in the resources and infrastructure sectors. He joins Credit Suisse from Deutsche Bank AG, where he was director, global corporate finance. Before that, he worked for Lazard and HSBC Securities.


Investec Investment Bank and Securities added Gareth Taylor as a director in the corporate finance division to lead coverage of private equity clients and Matthew Wesley to its debt advisory team as an associate director. Taylor was a director at Deloitte, while Wesley was a vice president on the debt advisory team for Lazard.


Independent alternative investment firm Sorin Capital Management LLC hired Matt Chasin as chief operating officer, partner and member of the investment committee. Previously, Chasin was a senior managing director and head of repo financing activities for mortgage and structured products at Bear, Stearns & Co. Chasin was also a member of Bear Stearns' global finance committee.


Avista Capital Partners appointed Patrick O'Neill as a healthcare industry adviser. In 2006, O'Neill retired from Johnson & Johnson, which he joined in 1976. After holding research and development and new business development positions in the pharmaceutical business, he moved to the medical devices and diagnostics group in 1989.


Investment firm W. P. Carey & Co. LLC announced that Mark Goldberg became president of Carey Financial LLC, the company's broker-dealer subsidiary. Goldberg served as CEO and president of independent broker-dealer AIG-Royal Alliance Inc.


In Menlo Park, Calif., venture capital firm Matrix Partners tapped Dana Stalder as a general partner, investing in Internet, software and other technology companies.

Stalder served as PayPal Inc.'s senior vice president responsible for technology, product, sales, marketing and international business.


Mayer Brown LLP said partner Martin Mankabady joined the firm's corporate group from Lawrence Graham LLP. He specializes in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate finance, primarily in the insurance and financial services sectors. Mankabady also advises on general company law, commercial and regulatory matters.

In Los Angeles, Timothy McOsker arrived at the firm as a partner in the government and global trade group, focusing on project entitlement and land development. Most recently, McOsker was a partner at Christensen, Glaser, Fink, Jacobs, Weil & Shapiro LLP.

In Charlotte, N.C., David Wiles and Timothy Ryan joined as partners in the finance practice. Both were previously partners at Hunton & Williams LLP and in-house lawyers at Bank of America Corp. Associate S. William Walker joins with them.


Vernessa Pollard joined Arnold & Porter LLP's Food and Drug Administration and healthcare practice in Washington as a counsel. Pollard is former associate chief counsel in the FDA's Office of Chief Counsel.


Holland & Knight LLP appointed Steven Wright as executive partner in the Boston office, which handles litigation, intellectual property, healthcare, real estate, corporate/mergers and acquisitions and bankruptcy. Wright joined the firm in 1997 and focuses on corporate, regulatory and litigation matters.

Nicholas Milano will serve as executive partner of the firm's Fort Lauderdale, Fla., office, which covers real estate, hospitality, litigation, private wealth services, tax and corporate/M&A. Milano also serves as practice group leader for Holland & Knight's Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach real estate practice.


Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP named four partners in New York: litigator Michael Kraut; Finnbarr Murphy and Judith Walkoff, business and finance; and Amanda Smith, pro bono administration.

In Philadelphia: litigators Meredith Auten and Kristofor Henning; David Bowman, Morgan Lewis resources; Kenneth Davis; intellectual property; Paul Evans and Michael Puma, labor and employment; and Paul Gordon, business and finance.
