Movers & shakers: Aug. 25, 2008

Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management made three hires to serve high net worth clients in the Native American market.

The team includes two investment representatives: vice presidents Bernard Machlovitch and Hans Maentz, and sales associate Monica Aguilera. They join from Lehman Brothers Inc. and report to Todd Locicero, regional manager of the private wealth management office in Los Angeles.


UBS veteran Hans-Ulrich Meister will join Credit Suisse Group on Sept. 1 as CEO Switzerland and as a member of the executive board. Until last year, Meister was head of business banking for UBS, which he joined in 1983.

He reports to CS chief executive Brady Dougan. Meister will also report to Walter Berchtold, CEO of private banking, and will be a member of the private banking management committee.

Ulrich Körner, the current CEO Switzerland, is leaving Credit Suisse to pursue other opportunities. Körner joined CS in 1998.

Thompson National Properties LLC said Robert Cade joined the company as a managing director of Thompson National and chief investment officer of TNP Debt Fund LP.

Cade was previously director at Wachovia Securities LLC in the real estate capital markets group since 2004, where he was the senior CMBS credit officer, based in New York. Before that, Cade held senior positions at Rait Investment Trust, Merrill Lynch & Co. and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.

Separately, Thompson hired Michael Loukas as an executive vice president, securities division. Loukas was previously a regional vice president at Security Benefit Group.


Chrysalis Ventures LLC named John Willmoth as a venture partner. Willmoth previously joined Chrysalis as executive-in-residence in September. Now, he will evaluate investment opportunities and assist current portfolio companies in the media and communications sector, and serve on the board of directors for select Chrysalis investments. Willmoth was most recently vice president of business development for Sprint Nextel Corp. and was a member of Nextel's senior management team since 1989.


Robert W. Baird & Co. tapped Andrew Cho as a vice president at its San Francisco institutional sales and trading office. Cho previously served as an institutional equity sales person covering buy-side clients at RBC Capital Markets.


Pali Capital Inc. expanded its equity team, adding three sales traders: Thomas Pierini, Michael Hock and Tania Wedmid. Pierini was a managing director principal at Bear Stearns Cos. in institutional sales trading, where he had worked since 1999. Hock and Wedmid arrive from Jefferies & Co.


J.E. Robert Cos. said Kristina Kneip joined the firm as vice president and chief compliance officer. Based in McLean, Va., she reports to Daniel Ward, head legal counsel. Kneip comes to JER from ACA Compliance Group, where she served as a senior principal consultant.


Howard Adler joined Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP as co-chair of its global compensation, benefits and employment department. He focuses on the employee benefits and executive compensation aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Adler arrives from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, where he has practiced since 1986.


The Seattle office of K&L Gates LLP welcomed Allen Baden as a partner in the firm's intellectual property practice. Baden joins K&L Gates from the Silicon Valley office of Kenyon & Kenyon LLP.


James Michalski joined Holland & Knight LLP's Los Angeles office as senior counsel in its national labor and employment practice group. Michalski arrives from workplace law firm Jackson Lewis LLP.


William Wise recently joined H&K's Boston office as senior counsel. As a member of the business law section, he focuses on compliance and ethics issues, corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions. Wise joins Holland & Knight from Analog Devices Inc., where he was chief compliance and business ethics officer.


Advisory firm BBK hired directors Michael Martin and James Weinberg, and manager Mark Kozak. Martin is former director at GRAF Ventures, Weinberg was a vice president and treasurer at Lord & Taylor LLC, and Kozak was a consulting finance-strategic planning manager and interim chief financial officer at Carbon Motors.


Ernst & Young's transaction advisory services group promoted Michael Zambito to partner. He has been with E&Y for over 13 years. Also, Laurent Williot was made an executive director. Williot specializes in utility transactions and has been with E&Y for more than 15 years.

Other promotions include: partners Philippe Leroy and Mark Pepler; executive director Andrew Stephenson; and principals Susan Prior, Anthony Patten, Dorian Swerdlow, Dayton Nordin and John Burns. Alex Fredericks became a partner in the private equity accounting advisory center.
