KalpanaMorparia.pngJ.P. Morgan Asia Pacific appointed Kalpana Morparia as CEO of the firm's Indian operations. Morparia joins from ICICI Group, India's largest private sector financial services company, where she spent 33 years. Morparia was vice chairman of ICICI Group's insurance, asset management and securities companies, and chief strategy and communications officer.

Morparia will be based in Mumbai and report to Gaby Abdelnour, chairman and chief executive of J.P. Morgan Asia Pacific.


Ex-Lehman Brothers Inc. trader Cyril Youinou joined Standard Chartered Bank as a director of energy derivatives trading and manages the energy trading derivatives team in Singapore. Youinou started his career in Singapore with Société Générale SA and then worked at the energy and commodities unit of Goldman, Sachs & Co. Most recently, Youinou was an energy trader with Lehman.

On Thursday, the New York Times reported, citing someone briefed on the plans, that Lehman Brothers will distribute as many as 1,500 pink slips, trimming its workforce by 6%.


Former Goldman, Sachs & Co. executive Steve Mandis left the $12 billion hedge fund Halcyon Asset Management LLC - one of the oldest hedge funds on Wall Street, The New York Post reported, citing an investor letter.

Tata Capital Ltd. hired J. Niranjan as head of investment banking. Niranjan was managing director and co-head of investment banking at CLSA India Ltd. He spent more than 15 years at ICICI Securities Ltd.


Latham & Watkins LLP announced that Daniel Meron will join its Washington office as a partner in the litigation department and global co-chair of the firm's healthcare and life sciences practice group. On Sept. 1, Meron will arrive from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he served as general counsel.


Workplace law firm Jackson Lewis LLP said Victor Cerda joined the firm's Washington office as a partner, covering immigration law. Cerda has more than 10 years of federal government service in senior immigration-related positions, including serving as counsel of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and chief of staff for ICE and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
