Perella Weinberg Partners announced that Paul Inouye and John Varughese joined the firm as partners in San Francisco. They advise technology companies.
Inouye (pictured) was a managing director, responsible for the Internet practice at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. Prior to that, he covered both the software and Internet industries at Piper Jaffray & Co. and Morgan Stanley, respectively. Before Morgan, Inouye founded and led Robertson Stephens & Co.'s Internet investment banking group in San Francisco. Varughese was a managing director in technology mergers and acquisitions at Lehman Brothers.
Jim Apostolides joined Needham & Co. LLC as a managing director in the mergers and acquisitions group, based in New York. He reports to Rick deNey, head of M&A.
Most recently, Apostolides was a managing director at Citigroup Inc., responsible for its investment banking relationship with General Electric Co. Previously, he spent several years in consulting and executive roles at Accenture, Oracle Corp. and BearingPoint. He began his career at McKinsey & Co. and also worked at Morgan Stanley.
Deutsche Bank AG hired Ari Makela as a managing director for Nordic coverage in global banking. Based in London, he reports to Jan Olsson, head of Nordic corporate finance and chairman of the Nordic management committee.
Makela joins from Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., where he was a managing director overseeing origination and execution of mergers and acquisitions, equity and corporate finance transactions in Nordic countries, focusing on Finland.
Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., which recently delayed plans to go public, said Peter McKillop will join the firm as director of global communications, effective Nov. 17. He will report to Kenneth Mehlman, managing director and head of global public affairs. McKillop was most recently a senior vice president and head of corporate communications for Bank of America Corp.'s consumer and small business bank. Previous to that, McKillop was managing director for marketing and communications at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. for Asia-Pacific. He was also managing director of the Japan office of Burson-Marsteller and regional media director for its Asia-Pacific operations.
Mehlman became KKR's public affairs chief earlier this year. He was a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and a previous chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Private equity firm Pomona Capital made three hires.
Jordan Robinson joined as a managing director to lead product development, marketing and distribution strategies efforts. Principal Gregory Walters focuses on secondary investment analysis and deal sourcing. Vice president Haijoung Kim covers capital raising and investments for Pomona's Asian fund-of-funds. Robinson and Walters work in New York, while Kim is based in Hong Kong. Robinson was a vice president, global PE strategies for AIG Investments. Walters joined Pomona from VCFA Group and Kim was a senior investment manager in the alternative investments division of Samsung Life in Seoul.
Evercore Partners Inc. hired Qazi Fazal for its restructuring advisory practice as a senior managing director in New York. Fazal was most recently at Miller Buckfire & Co., where he was a managing director and a management committee member. He also worked at Dresdner Kleinwort.
Private equity firm Permira appointed James Fraser as head of financial services. Fraser had a 20-year career at L.E.K. Consulting in the U.K., U.S. and Australia. Most recently, he was co-head of L.E.K.'s global financial services practice.
Morrison & Foerster LLP said Lawrence Bard joined the firm as a partner in the corporate group, in Northern Virginia. Bard focuses on corporate finance and securities law matters, including public and private offerings, venture capital transactions and other financing transactions. He arrives from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP.
Goodwin Procter LLP tapped Kevin Culligan and John Hanish, both former members of Heller Ehrman LLP's intellectual property litigation group, as partners in its New York office.
Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold LLP announced that New York partner Linda Willett is now leader of the drug and medical device practice group. Willett, who joined Sedgwick earlier this year, is a former Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. vice president and deputy general counsel.
King & Spalding LLP elected 12 partners: Litigators Roberto Luzi and Russell Workman; corporate attorneys Anne Cox, Wael Wahbeh and Pulina Whitaker; Natasha Moffitt, Jill Wasserman and Jonathan Ball, intellectual property; Nabil Issa and Michael Rainey, finance; Elaine Tseng, FDA; and Daniel Donovan, government advocacy and public policy.
Three lawyers were named counsel: Stefanie Greer, financial restructuring; and corporate attorneys Kathleen Minniti and Alison Van Lear.
