Leigh Clifford, chairman of Qantas Airways Ltd., was tapped as a senior adviser to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. Clifford spent 37 years at Rio Tinto plc, where he was CEO from April 2000 to April 2007. Clifford is also a director of Barclays Bank plc, resident in Melbourne, Australia.
RBC Wealth Management hired a team from Citibank International plc to focus on nonresident Indians in Europe and Asia. Sumit Sibal in London leads the team, which includes Amit Kachawaha, Amit Kotha and Vikram Anand.
RHJ International SA said Timothy Collins resigned as co-CEO and was appointed chairman of the investment and strategy committee; other members are Leonhard Fischer and D. Ronald Daniel. Fischer, who has been co-chief executive of RHJI since May 2007, will continue as sole CEO.
RHJI is New York private equity firm Ripplewood Holdings LLC's Brussels-listed fund.
Halcyon Asset Management LLC made general counsel Manish Mital a managing principal. Also, Suzanne McDermott was promoted to chief compliance officer and associate general counsel.
Prior to joining Halcyon in January 2007, Mital was an enforcement attorney at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, focusing on hedge fund malfeasance. McDermott joined Halcyon in May as deputy chief compliance officer after spending the previous seven years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the eastern district of New York, most recently in the securities fraud unit.
Nancy Fox, who is retiring as chief compliance officer after 25 years with Halcyon, will remain as a senior adviser.
Jeffrey Binder, Vin Bisceglia and David Fellows founded venture capital firm Genovation Capital LLC, focusing on communications, media and the Internet.
Binder worked at Motorola Inc. as senior director of strategy and mergers and acquisitions, and as general manager of its on demand solutions group. Prior to Motorola, Binder founded Broadbus Technologies, which was sold to Motorola in 2006 for nearly $200 million. Bisceglia was most recently chairman and CEO of Broadbus from 2004 to 2006. Fellows was chief technology officer of Comcast Corp.
Eagle Rock Energy Partners LP appointed Jeffrey Wood as a senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Wood replaces Alfredo Garcia, who was interim CFO since Aug. 16. Garcia will continue to serve as senior vice president, corporate development. Wood worked at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. since 2001, most recently as a senior vice president and portfolio manager in its private equity division. Previously, he was a vice president in its investment banking division providing advisory and capital markets services with a focus on the energy sector and emphasis on midstream companies and MLPs. Prior to Lehman, he was a senior auditor at Price Waterhouse LLP from 1993 to 1997.
Highland Capital Management LP announced management changes at two funds. Brad Borud and Brad Means will manage Highland Credit Strategies Fund, while Borud and Greg Stuecheli will manage Highland Distressed Opportunities Inc.
Borud is a partner, senior trader and chief investment officer of retail products at Highland. Means and Stuecheli are partners and senior portfolio managers.
Troutman Sanders LLP and Ross, Dixon & Bell LLP completed their combination on New Year's, creating a 785-attorney firm, which retained the Troutman name. David Gische, Ross, Dixon & Bell's managing partner, and Mike Whitton of the San Diego office joined Troutman's executive committee. The combined Washington offices are led by Kevin Fitzgerald, now managing partner of Troutman's Washington office.
Bryan Daly, Charles Kreindler and Peter Morris joined the Los Angeles office of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP as partners in the business trial and government contracts practice groups, specializing in white collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation.
Special counsel Barbara Taylor and Melissa Eaves join them. The group practiced together at Mayer Brown LLP.
Separately, Michael Molano joined Sheppard Mullin's Silicon Valley office as a partner in the intellectual property practice. Molano was a partner in the Palo Alto, Calif., office of Mayer Brown.
Intellectual property firm Darby & Darby PC elected Samuel Woodley as a shareholder, and promoted associates Thomas Bean, Abigail Rubinstein and Jamie Wiegand to senior counsel. Prior to his legal career, Wiegand spent more than 20 years at Boeing Co. as a manager and systems architect for computing infrastructures.
In addition, Michael Keller joined the Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., office as a principal after serving as head of the biomedical practice group at Lott & Friedland. Keller focuses on therapeutic, diagnostic and medical device products. Woodley, Bean and Rubinstein work from New York, while Wiegand practices in Seattle.
