Mergers and acquisitions advisory firm Sagent Advisors Inc. said chairman and co-CEO Joel Cohen, 71, will retire at the end of March. Cohen founded Sagent Advisors along with president and co-chief Hal Ritch in 2003. Ritch will remain as president and CEO.
Before co-founding Sagent Advisors, Cohen (pictured) was a managing director and co-head of global M&A at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Inc. from 1988 until 2000. Before DLJ, he was a partner with Davis Polk & Wardwell and headed its M&A practice.
Sixteen-year Goldman, Sachs & Co. media banking veteran Joseph Ravitch, who once ran its Asian media and telecom practice, is leaving the firm. It is unclear where he is headed.
Andy Gordon, co-head of the media group alongside Ravitch, will be sole head of the practice. The broader technology, media and telecom group is led by Gregg Lemkau and George Lee.
Deutsche Bank AG hired Masaya Okoshi and Sean George as managing directors in global credit trading in the global markets division, based in New York. They arrive from Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
At Deutsche, they will trade investment grade and high-yield bonds and credit derivatives, and report to Nick Pappas, managing director and head of flow credit trading for North America.
Okoshi joins after more than 10 years in BofA's investment-grade and high-yield trading group, where he was head of investment grade trading for North America. George was head of credit derivatives trading for North America.
Greenhill & Co. is launching a financing advisory and restructuring group. Andrew Kramer, who was head of restructuring for the Americas at UBS, will join as a managing director in New York. Kramer also worked at Credit Suisse Group.
Ken Goldsbrough, formerly a managing director and head of media, communications and entertainment at GE Capital Corp. in London, has joined as a managing director. Before GE, he spent 16 years at Banque Paribas SA and also worked at Dresdner Kleinwort and Standard Chartered plc.
In Toronto, Stanley Hartt was tapped as chairman of Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd. Hartt was chairman of Citigroup Global Markets Canada Inc. for 12 years and was previously federal deputy minister of finance and chief of staff in the Office of the Prime Minister. Earlier, Hartt had a 20-year legal career at Stikeman Elliott LLP, where he was a partner for 16 years.
Private equity firm SVG Capital plc's Andrew Williams is leaving his posts as a director of the firm and CEO of its fund advisory business. At the same time, SVG, which saw its net assets fall about 64% last year, launched a strategic review that will end before May. Nonexecutive chairman Nicholas Ferguson becomes executive chair of SVG Advisors as the firm searches for Williams' replacement.
Before SVG, Williams was a managing director of Schroder Ventures. Before that, he worked at Schroders plc, including a period as co-head of equity capital markets and four years in Japan, where he was head of corporate finance. He was also head of the Schroders securities Asian division. Williams is a nonexecutive director of CDC Group plc and of Macquarie Bank International Ltd.
Quadrangle Group LLC promoted Amanda Siegel to principal and Alex Hocherman, Sebastien Briens and Mark Brennan to vice presidents. All work in Quadrangle Capital Partners, the media- and communications-focused private equity business.
KeyCorp hired Angela McCracken as a senior vice president in its debt capital markets group, based in Dallas. McCracken was a vice president in the energy group at Citibank NA after beginning her banking career in the energy group at Bank of America Corp.
Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP said Bruce Vanyo, co-chair of the securities litigation practice, will join Anthony Paccione as co-chair of the New York litigation and dispute resolution practice. Vanyo will also continue to work from Los Angeles. Before joining Katten in 2006, Vanyo was chairman of the securities litigation group at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati PC. He founded its litigation department and served as its chairman from 1984 until 1996.
Covington & Burling LLP announced that former Oregon Senator Gordon Smith joined the firm's government affairs and international trade practices as a senior adviser, resident in Washington.
In Los Angeles, Jackson Lewis LLP enlisted Theresa Marchlewski as a partner. Marchlewski was formerly assistant general counsel for Washington Mutual Inc., where she oversaw employment and banking litigation in the Southwest, West and Midwest regions.
In Washington, Sidley Austin LLP said Jonathan Cohn rejoined the firm as a partner in the appellate practice. Cohn was deputy assistant attorney general in charge of the civil division's appellate staff at the Department of Justice.
