HSBC Holdings plc named Paulo Maia CEO of its Australian operations. He replaces Stuart Davis, who moves to India to head Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd., which just completed a deal to acquire 88.89% of PT Bank Ekonomi Raharja Tbk (Bank Ekonomi) for $608 million.

Maia is deputy chief executive of HSBC's Brazil business.

Raymond James Financial Inc. acquired Lane, Berry & Co. International LLC, a middle market investment banking and advisory firm. Managing director Frederick Lane (pictured), former chairman and CEO of Lane Berry, joined Raymond James as vice chairman of investment banking and will work closely with Jim McDaniel and Dav Mosby, co-heads of Raymond James' investment banking group.

Managing director Robert Berry, former president of Lane Berry, joined as co-head of Raymond James' mergers and acquisitions practice. Lane Berry's James Bunn was appointed co-head of the business services practice alongside managing director Joe Estes. Berry and Lane founded their firm in 2002 after serving as managing directors at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Inc. Lane Berry employs 21 investment bankers with offices in Boston and Denver.

Perella Weinberg Partners LP hired Robert Maguire as a partner in its corporate advisory group. Based in London, he will advise clients in the global energy sector.

Maguire was an investment banker in Morgan Stanley's energy group for 21 years and was co-head of the global oil and gas group from 2003 until he left in April 2007. Most recently, he was at Basin Capital Partners, an energy-focused private equity firm where he will continue to serve on the advisory board.

Stifel, Nicolaus & Co., a brokerage and investment banking firm, tapped William Heinzerling as head of the fixed income capital markets group. He was most recently a managing partner and a founding member of CapRio Management LLC, a New York-based investment advisory firm.

From 1984 to 2005, Heinzerling was with Citigroup Inc. and Smith Barney. In 1995, he was made co-head of the global fixed income division.
