Banc of America Securities-Merrill Lynch Research hired Ethan Harris as head of North America economics and David Bianco as head of U.S. equity strategy. Harris (pictured left) will join from Barclays plc. Before that, he was chief U.S. economist at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. since 2003. Prior to joining Lehman in 1996, Harris worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York for nine years.
Bianco (right) will join from UBS, where he was chief U.S. equity portfolio strategist and head of U.S. valuation and accounting research. Harris and Bianco will work from New York and report to Adam Quinton, head of BofA Securities-Merrill Lynch global macro research.
Also, Michael Hartnett (lower left) was named chairman of the research investment committee, which is responsible for identifying investments ideas across the global research platform and will author the RIC report. Hartnett was also named chief global equity strategist and global wealth management strategist. Joe Zidle will support him.
Lazard brought in John Stewart, an international mergers and acquisitions specialist, as a managing director. Based in Sydney, Stewart is a member of the leadership team for the Australia corporate advisory business, under John Wylie, managing director and head of Australian corporate advisory.
Stewart was most recently a senior adviser in J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.'s San Francisco office. He had been a managing director with Thomas Weisel Partners LLC and an M&A attorney with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver and Jacobson LLP in New York.
