Citigroup Inc. hired James von Moltke head of corporate mergers and acquisitions, replacing Vince Fandozzi, who will move to another senior role. Von Moltke was a managing director in Morgan Stanley's financial institutions group and head of the global securities industry investment banking group. Earlier, he held a similar role at J.P. Morgan Securities Inc., where he also served as co-head of the North American financial institutions corporate finance practice and as head of Asia-Pacific financial institutions from 1999 to 2003.
Chief financial officer Ned Kelly and vice chairman Lewis Kaden signed the memo announcing von Moltke's hire. They thanked Fandozzi for leading many divestitures over the past 18 months, including the recent closing of the joint venture between Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley, the sales of Nikko Cordial Securities Inc. and Citi's interest in Redecard SA.
Oil and gas dealmaker Jack Lentz will join Lazard as chairman, international oil and gas, effective June 10. Lentz was previously head of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.'s worldwide energy practice. Lentz, who has served as a director of Peabody Energy Corp. for 11 years, is nonexecutive chairman of Rowan Cos. and is a director of Carbo Ceramics.
Lazard had advised Exelon Corp. on its offer for NRG Energy Inc. and the U.K. Nuclear Liabilities Fund in connection with Electricitié de France SA's acquisition of British Energy.
