Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank plc, made several appointments to its Latin American equity research team. They are: Roberto Attuch Jr., head of equity research, Latin America -- equity strategy and financials; David Belaunde, consumer and retail; Henrique Caldeira, nonbank financials and co-lead on equity strategy; Leonardo Correa, metals and mining; Felipe Mattar and Sergio Conti, utilities and oil; Michel Morin, telecoms and media; and Guilherme Vilazante, cement, construction and real estate.
Caldeira joins as assistant vice president and senior research analyst and is responsible for Latin American equity strategy in conjunction with Attuch. Both worked at Credit Suisse Group. Attuch joined Barclays in March and worked at Credit Suisse from 1995 to 2008. Also from Credit Suisse, Correa joins as assistant vice president and senior research analyst.
Vice president Conti and Mattar, director and senior research analyst, come from Citigroup Inc. Morin joins as a director and senior research analyst from Merrill Lynch & Co., where he had worked since 1996. Belaunde, vice president and senior research analyst, joined Barclays in September and publishes research on Latin American consumer and retail companies. He had worked at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in Europe since 2005. Vilazante, vice president and senior research analyst, joined Barclays in February from UBS Pactual and publishes research on Latin American cement and construction companies. Also in June, Barclays appointed Ricardo Lanfranchi head of equities sales for Brazil, and in May named Gabriel Barbará head of equities for Mexico.
