Movers & shakers: July 9, 2009

UBP Asset Management, a fund-of-funds management company of Union Bancaire Privée, hired Sara Sprung as chief investment officer of alternative investment. Sprung was previously a portfolio manager at Fortress Investment Group and chief risk officer of the liquid markets business of Fortress. From 1999 to 2005, she was a managing director at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. Sprung started her career as a mortgage trader at Salomon Brothers and also traded derivatives at Bankers Trust Co.

Also, Jonathan Morgan will join the firm as head of research of alternative investment. Morgan was previously a managing director and head of the hedge fund management group at Barclays Global Investors. Before joining Barclays in 2005, Morgan was director of research and portfolio management at Julius Baer Holding AG. He started his career at Morgan Stanley before moving to Caxton Corp., where he spent four years as a strategist in fixed-income and foreign exchange trading.


RickClimanMovers.pngRichard Climan, Keith Flaum and Eric Reifschneider left Cooley Godward Kronish LLP to join Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP in Silicon Valley. Climan (pictured) led Cooley's mergers and acquisitions practice. He recently advised Gilead Sciences Inc. on its $1.4 billion acquisition of CV Therapeutics Inc. Flaum is a corporate securities lawyer, while Reifschneider covers intellectual property.
