J.P. Morgan Asset Management hired Robert Stark to lead strategy and business development. Working from New York, he reports to chief financial officer David Brigstocke.
Stark joins J.P. Morgan from Russell Investments, where he was global head of strategy and mergers and acquisitions. Before that, he spent more than a decade at McKinsey & Co., most recently as a partner in the financial services sector focusing on insurance, asset management, investment banking and private equity.
Promeet Ghosh, a former Bank of America Merrill Lynch investment banking managing director, joined Temasek Holdings Pte. Ltd. as managing director, India.
Dmitry Avdeev, co-head and deputy chair of the management board of investment banking in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States at Morgan Stanley, joined OAO Rosneft as vice president for finance and economics. Avdeev rejoined Morgan in 2010 after two years as chief financial officer at oil services company Integra Group. From 2006 to 2008 he was an executive director at Morgan, and from 1998 to 2006 he was a managing director at UFG Asset Management and Deutsche UFG Capital Management. Earlier, Avdeev was deputy head in the project finance department at Sidanco Oil Co. in Moscow.
Megan Sterrett joined event-driven New York hedge fund Ellis Lake Capital as director of marketing and investor relations. She was a principal at Doshi Capital Partners.
Insurer RSA Insurance Group plc appointed Michael Duncan, an eight-year veteran of Zurich Financial Services, as CEO of specialty, Asia and Middle East. He was chief underwriting officer, Asia-Pacific. RSA also named Christina Tham as legal, risk and compliance director, Asia and Middle East. She spent four years at Fortis Bank, most recently as regional general counsel.
Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP added two corporate partners in China. Mathew Lewis will work from Beijing in the capital markets group. He was formerly head of global capital markets, legal, for Morgan Stanley Asia Ltd.
Seung Chong, previously with Proskauer Rose LLP, joined the M&A and private equity group, based in Hong Kong. Chong was with White & Case LLP before joining Proskauer last year.
Separately, the firm promoted Nell Scott to its partnership. Based in London, he counsels on international capital markets, M&A and private equity transactions.
Ashurst LLP took on Katie Winterbourne as a partner in its energy and resources practice, based in the Perth, Australia, office. Winterbourne arrives from BHP Billiton Ltd., where she was manager, legal, stainless steel materials. She previously spent more than 12 years at Blake Dawson (now Ashurst Australia).
DLA Piper announced that David Luce joined the firm's corporate and finance practice and insurance and reinsurance sector practice as a partner in New York. He was a director in the fixed-income division of Credit Suisse Group. Prior to that, Luce was special counsel in the financial institutions group of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. He was formerly a vice president in fixed income at Barclays Capital and Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.
Three partners and four associates joined McDermott Will & Emery LLP in Paris. Partners Bertrand Delafaye, corporate advisory; Antoine Vergnat, U.S. and international tax; and Antony Martinez, trial, come in from Orrick Rambaud Martel Associates.
Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP welcomed antitrust lawyer Nicholas Spearing as a partner in its London office. Spearing had been a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP since 1984.
Bill Finkelstein joined Dykema Gossett PLLC as a partner in its Dallas office, working with the corporate finance practice. Finkelstein was a partner with K&L Gates LLP. He previously spent 33 years with Hughes & Luce LLP before its combination with K&L Gates in 2008.
Real estate lawyer Kent Beattie joined Baker & McKenzie LLP as a partner in Toronto. Most recently, Beattie was a partner with Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP.
Alvarez & Marsal added Michael O'Dowd to the firm's transaction advisory group as a managing director in New York. He specializes in financial accounting due diligence projects for buy-side and sell-side engagements. O'Dowd was a managing director at Duff & Phelps Corp.
A&M also brought in managing directors Philip Antoon and Gary Frantzen in New York and Chicago, respectively, to its valuation services practice. Antoon was a member of the valuation practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and was previously global practice leader of Kroll Inc.'s valuation services practice. Frantzen managed the Chicago office and was national chair of the healthcare industry practice at American Appraisal Associates Inc.
In Washington, J. Michael Gibbons joined the firm's global forensic and dispute services practice as a managing director. Gibbons was a principal at Deloitte & Touche.
Alvarez & Marsal Taxand LLC tapped Blake Davis as a managing director in San Francisco. He spent 12 years with Deloitte LLP in San Francisco.
