Lightyear Capital LLC appointed Jerry Miller, former president and CEO of Van Kampen Investments, as a senior adviser. Prior to Van Kampen, Miller was a division director for Morgan Stanley's global wealth management group and a member of its executive and operating committees. Prior to that, he had a 21-year career at Merrill Lynch & Co.


Alvarez & Marsal said Charlie Ditkoff, former vice chairman and head of global healthcare corporate and investment banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, joined the firm's healthcare industry group as a senior adviser in New York. He also worked at Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse Group. Ditkoff is a board member of QuantiaMD, a healthcare social networking company, a senior adviser to Marwood Group and of counsel at McDermott Will & Emery LLP.


In Washington, Linda Maxwell joined Houlihan Lokey Inc.'s aerospace, defense and government investment banking group as a director, reporting to senior managing director Anita Antenucci, head of ADG. Maxwell spent 12 years at Jefferies & Co., most recently as chief strategist at its A&D investment banking group Jefferies Quarterdeck. Before that, she spent a decade at Raytheon Co. working in business development, systems engineering and engineering manufacturing and design.

In addition, Roger Christopher joined the firm's ADG group in Washington, reporting to Antenucci. Christopher came in from KPMG Corporate Finance, where he was a vice president involved in sell-side mergers and acquisitions in the defense sector. Previously, he was a vice president at Stifel, Nicolaus and Co.


Ares Commercial Real Estate Corp. hired Tae-Sik Yoon as chief financial officer. Yoon was a senior vice president handling capital markets activities at Akridge, a privately held commercial real estate investment and services firm. He previously worked at J.E. Robert Co., including as a managing director and CFO. Yoon also worked in the real estate investment banking group at Morgan Stanley and was an attorney at Williams & Connolly LLP.

Yoon replaced interim CFO Richard Davis, who held the role since September. Davis will continue to serve as an officer of Ares Commercial Real Estate Management LLC.


In New York, Pacific Crest Securities Inc. added Erica Yoon as a managing director, institutional equity sales. She was managing director of technology specialist sales at UBS Securities. Prior to that, Yoon was director of technology specialist sales at Merrill Lynch & Co., where she led the U.S. team of technology specialists.


SW8 tapped Kyle D'Silva as an associate portfolio manager. He worked at Stonecap Securities Inc. in institutional equity sales covering hedge funds in North America. Prior to that, he was at Blackmont Capital in institutional equities as the trading desk analyst, where he developed hedge fund trading strategies such as long, short, pair trade, warrant arbitrage and merger arbitrage ideas.


Standard Chartered Bank plc appointed Raheel Ahmed as regional head of consumer banking for the Middle East, Pakistan and Africa, replacing Vishu Ramachandran, who will become chief operating officer, consumer banking. Ahmed joined the firm in 2004.


Loretta Cross recently joined Charles River Associates as a vice president in the energy and environment practice. She was managing partner of energy and corporate advisory and restructuring services at Grant Thornton, where she founded the practice. Before Grant Thornton, she was a managing director at Alvarez and Marsal, senior managing director at FTI Consulting Inc. and a partner at both Coopers & Lybrand and PricewaterhouseCoopers.


The Securities and Exchange Commission named Norm Champ as director of its division of investment management. He has been deputy director of the office of compliance inspections and examinations and succeeds Eileen Rominger, who is retiring. Champ joined the SEC in January 2010 from Chilton Investment Co., where he was general counsel for 10 years as well as a member of the executive committee and a partner.


Business and finance partner Stephen Opler joined Ballard Spahr LLP.

Opler represents strategics and private equity firms in mergers and acquisitions. He joins the firm from Carlton Fields, where he was a shareholder. He was previously a partner with Alston & Bird LLP.


O'Melveny & Myers LLP took on Gigi Woo as a capital markets partner, based in Hong Kong. Woo held senior positions in the legal departments of Deutsche Bank AG, Goldman Sachs (Asia) LLC and, most recently, at Standard Chartered Bank plc, where she was global head of debt and equity capital markets legal.


Partner Rodrigo de Campos Vieira has returned to São Paulo-based law firm TozziniFreire Advogados in its capital markets and banking practice groups. He was chief legal officer at mining company Ferrous Resources do Brasil SA.
