John Terzaken, director of criminal enforcement at the U.S. Department of Justice, antitrust division, is joining Allen & Overy LLP's global antitrust practice as a partner. Based in Washington, he will lead the cartel defense practice in the U.S. At the DOJ, Terzaken presided over numerous global cartel investigations including the auto parts, Libor, LCD televisions and air cargo investigations.
Oppenheimer & Co. named Bruce McCarthy and Marc Thompson as managing directors and co-heads of investment banking.
McCarthy has worked at Oppenheimer and its predecessor companies since 1998 and is also head of global mergers and acquisitions, having worked on more than 250 completed mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and hostile defenses. Before Oppenheimer, he spent nine years in the mergers and acquisition group at Salomon Smith Barney.
Thompson joined Oppenheimer in 1987 and has worked on public and private equity and debt financings and M&A assignments. In 2000, he formed the software and services practice.
Mesirow Financial named Brian Price as a vice president and chief operating officer of the firm's investment banking group, which he joined as an analyst in 2006.
Separately, the firm promoted Brad Collins to associate.
Baird Capital Partners, the U.S.-based buyout fund of Baird Private Equity, hired David Schroeder as an operating partner, working on investment opportunities in the manufacturing sector. He joins the Milwaukee office from Corvus Advisors LLC, where he was a principal.
Employment litigator Steven Pearlman joined Proskauer Rose LLP as a partner in Chicago in its new whistleblowing and retaliation practice. He is a former partner and co-chairman of Seyfarth Shaw LLP's national Sarbanes-Oxley Whistleblower team.
Separately, the firm recruited Mary Consalvi as a partner in its patent law group. Consalvi is the former president and general counsel of NetBio Systems Inc., a provider of DNA analysis solutions. Consalvi was previously vice president and chief intellectual property counsel at biotechnology company Transkaryotic Therapies. Before that, she was a partner in private practice at Howrey Simon Arnold & White and at Lyon & Lyon LLP, where she practiced with James Shalek, Proskauer's co-head of the patent group.
SNR Denton announced that Michael Barz joined the firm's New York office as a partner in its corporate and business transactions practice. Barz hails from DLA Piper LLP. He covers domestic and international infrastructure financings.
McDermott Will & Emery LLP appointed Marcos Daniel Jiménez as a partner in the firm's trial practice, based in Miami and New York. He comes in from Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman and focuses on complex business litigation, white-collar criminal defense and internal investigations. He was also U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida from 2002 to 2005.
Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP brought in bankruptcy and restructuring attorney Gerard Uzzi as a partner from the New York office of White & Case LLP.
Expanding its intellectual property litigation offering, Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo PC added Michael Renaud, James Wodarski and Michael McNamara as members in Boston. They are joined by a group of associates from Pepper Hamilton LLP.
Complex commercial litigator Adam Schlatner joined Baker Hostetler LLP's litigation group as a partner in New York. He spent 18 years with Winston & Strawn LLP.
Bankruptcy and restructuring attorney Andrew Shaffer joined law firm Butzel Long PC as a shareholder in its New York office. Shaffer was a partner at Mayer Brown LLP.
