Ingersoll-Rand plc moved to stave off a proxy fight, naming activist investor Nelson Peltz to its board. Read the full story.


Standard Chartered Bank plc named Andrew Suckling as global head of mergers and acquisitions. Based in Singapore, he reports to James Courtenay, global head of advisory and infrastructure finance. Suckling joined Standard Chartered in 2006 and was most recently regional head of M&A for Northeast and Southeast Asia.

Also, Ralf Pilarczyk was named head of M&A, Southeast Asia. Pilarczyk reports to Suckling.


Bank of America Corp. vice chairman Charles Noski will retire in September. He joined BofA as executive vice president and chief financial officer in May 2010. Before that, he was a corporate vice president and CFO of Northrop Grumman Corp., and was a director from 2002 to 2005. Before Northrop, Noski was a senior adviser to Blackstone Group LP. From 1999 to 2002, he was a senior executive vice president and CFO of AT&T Corp.


Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP added Neil Caddy as a partner in the firm's global leveraged finance group, based in London. Caddy, who joins from Mayer Brown LLP, advises financial institutions on major acquisition financings and restructurings in the U.K. and Europe.


Alvarez & Marsal Taxand LLC recruited Jeffrey Olin as a managing director in Chicago. Previously, Olin was vice president of tax for consumer brands conglomerate Fortune Brands, where he executed a tax-free spinoff of Moen and Master Lock, completed the divestiture of Titleist and Footjoy, and led the global tax function for the remaining company, Beam Global Spirits. Before that, he was a national managing partner in international tax with Grant Thornton LLP and was an international tax partner in Chicago with McDermott, Will & Emery LLP and Arthur Andersen.

Separately, Alvarez & Marsal hired Lauren Hill as a managing director in its valuation services practice in Washington. Hill spent more than four years with Mesirow Financial Consulting in New York, most recently as a senior vice president, managing the structured finance valuation practice. She also worked in valuation roles for Navigant Capital Advisors LLC, Lease Valuation International Inc. and Deloitte & Touche Valuation LLC.


McDermott Will & Emery LLP appointed international dealmaker Winston Zhao as head of its China outbound transactions team. He joins from Jones Day. Zhao will be based in Shanghai and seconded to McDermott's strategic partner, MWE China Law Offices. Zhao will also be a member of the firm's China management committee.


In New York, Jonathan Lindabury joined Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP as senior counsel in the global derivatives practice. He was a vice president and associate general counsel at Goldman, Sachs & Co.


Thompson Hine LLP announced that Jonathan Ross joined its New York office as a partner in the commercial and public finance practice. Ross joins from Reed Smith LLP , where he was a partner.

Ross worked in-house at BNY Mellon, where he led a team conducting the acquisition-related due diligence of JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s custody and trust business. He also worked on the debt markets transactions desk at Merrill Lynch International, where he focused on global bond issues and Argentina's economic crisis.


Litigator Kimberly Brown joined Jones Day as a partner in the Pittsburgh office.

Formerly a partner with Thorp Reed & Armstrong LLP, she is a member of the business and tort litigation practice, focusing on commercial and insurance litigation and the defense of product liability and toxic tort actions.


Holland & Knight LLP said Steven Roosa and Christopher Cwalina joined its public policy and regulation practice as partners and co-chairs of the new firmwide data privacy and security team.

Roosa and Cwalina will reside in the New York and Washington offices, respectively. They hail from Reed Smith LLP.


Erwin Eichmann, recently chief operating officer, information technology sourcing, and executive director at Morgan Stanley, joined TheStreet Inc. as general counsel. He will also oversee business and corporate development activities. Before his 11 years at Morgan Stanley, Eichmann worked at CNBC.com as vice president of corporate development and at NBC Television as principal legal counsel for NBC's interactive media group. Earlier in his career, he worked in the mergers and acquisitions group at Shearman & Sterling LLP.
