Nomura Holdings Inc. has tapped Gary Cottle as head of fixed income, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, based in London. He replaces Georges Assi, who left the firm. Cottle left Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc when the investment bank was restructured in 2011. He had been global head of corporate risk. Cottle joined RBS in 2007 from Morgan Stanley, where he was head of European corporate debt and derivatives coverage.
Nomura also tapped former RBS banker Jon Linton as head of macro products for Australia, based in Sydney.
Troika Dialog has named Dean Tyler as a managing director and head of international fixed-income sales. He is based in London and reports to CEO Paolo Zaniboni and to Maxim Safonov, head of fixed income, currencies and commodities. Tyler was head of the fixed-income sales team at VTB Capital, where he helped set up the Hong Kong and New York offices. Prior to that, he was head of emerging markets and high-yield sales at ING Bank NV and head of fixed-income trading at F&C Asset Management plc.
In New York, CAI Private Equity has hired Allan Weinstein as a managing partner. He will lead the firm's U.S. investment effort, which is focused on energy and utility services, business and financial services, specialty/niche manufacturing, aerospace and healthcare. Weinstein was a managing director at middle-market private equity firm Lincolnshire Management Inc.
Stuart Schoenmann has joined Norwest Equity Partners, a middle-market private equity firm in Minneapolis, as an operating partner. Schoenmann was CEO of CVI Melles Griot, a designer and manufacturer of precision photonics products, in which NEP made an investment in 2003. NEP sold CVI to Idex Corp. in June 2011 for $400 million.
Andrew Green has joined Kelley Drye & Warren LLP's real estate practice in New York. He has previously been a partner at Jones Day and Rosenman & Colin LLP (now Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP). Green was lead counsel to JPMorgan Chase & Co. in a series of portfolio sale-leaseback transactions involving more than 100 properties and lead counsel to a syndicate led by JPMorgan for the construction financing of three themed hotels at Universal Studios Escape. He also worked on JPMorgan's acquisition of Washington Mutual Inc. from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., which involved more than 3,200 leased and owned properties.
In Washington, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP has announced that U.S. Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Calif., joined the firm as a managing director in the federal government affairs and public policy practice. Cardoza was a co-chair of the Blue Dog Coalition, a member of the House Agriculture and Foreign Affairs Committees and a former California State assemblyman. Earlier this year, Cardoza announced his plan to retire from Congress, where he has represented California's 18th Congressional District since 2002.
McDermott Will & Emery LLP has expanded its life sciences team.
The Silicon Valley-based patent team is led by intellectual property lawyers Judy Mohr and joins from King & Spalding LLP. The team includes Susan Evans, Susan Fitch and several patent agents and lawyers.
In Boston, life sciences dealmaker Richard Smith joined McDermott's corporate advisory practice. Smith was a partner at Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP.
Workplace law firm Jackson Lewis LLP has enlisted Patrick Rocks in its Chicago office as a partner. Rocks was general counsel for the Chicago Board of Education since 2005. Rocks was previously the first assistant corporation counsel for the city of Chicago.
Partner Andrew Oringer has joined Dechert LLP's employee benefits and executive compensation group in New York. Oringer was a partner at Ropes & Gray LLP, where he led the Erisa and executive compensation practice in New York.
