Tom Willett will join Standard Chartered plc as head of mergers and acquisitions for Europe on Sept. 30. Willett was chairman, corporate finance, for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc. He was previously global head of mergers and acquisitions. Before that, Willett was a managing director at ABN Amro Bank, where he spent 13 years.
Craig Delany was named chief investment officer of JPMorgan Chase & Co., reporting to co-chief operating officer Matt Zames. Previous CIO Ina Drew, a 30-year veteran of the firm, left in May as part of the fallout from a $2 billion trading loss.
Delany will remain on the firm's executive committee and the mortgage banking executive committee. He has been COO of mortgage banking since 2011. Prior to that, he spent 18 years in the investment bank, most recently as head of global fixed-income financing and tax-oriented investments, and structured financing. Delany joined the firm in 1993. Co-COO Frank Bisignano will continue as CEO of mortgage banking and work with Gordon Smith as the business integrates into Chase Consumer & Community Banking in the first quarter.
Blackstone Group LP named senior managing director Lionel Assant as head of European private equity. He joined the firm in 2003 after seven years at Goldman, Sachs & Co., working in mergers and acquisitions, asset management and PE.
Assant fills the spot vacated by Joe Baratta, who was named head of global private equity in July. Baratta makes the move to New York this month and joined the firm's management committee. He started working at the firm in 1998 and helped open its London office in 2001.
CVC Credit Partners hired Tom Newberry as a senior managing director and head of its private funds business. He will work from New York and join the operating board. He was a managing director at Credit Suisse Group, where he was head of global leveraged finance capital markets and syndicated loans. Newberry joined CS in November 2000 when it merged with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Inc., where he was a managing director and head of U.S. loan capital markets. He joined DLJ in 1996 from Deutsche Bank AG, where he was a managing director and head of North American loan syndications.
Pacific Investment Management Co. LLC's former global head of portfolio management, Sudi Mariappa, joined GLG Partners LP to manage its absolute return fixed-income offering. He worked at Pimco from 2000 to 2010, becoming a managing director in 2003. Mariappa worked closely with founder Bill Gross on the firm's hedge funds and he ran the global portfolio team until 2008.
Placement agent BerchWood Partners added Chris Hastings as a principal in New York. He joined the firm from Cantor Fitzgerald LP, where he was head of the private capital group and focused on originating and distributing private equity, venture capital, distressed credit and mezzanine funds. Previously, he was in the private placement group at Credit Suisse Group and spent nine years at Bear, Stearns & Co. Hastings started his career in the leveraged finance and private placement groups at Bank of America Corp.
S&P Capital IQ hired a director of research operations in London, two equity analysts in London and two in New York. Roger Hirst joined as a vice president and director of European equity research operations. He was head of European research at Bear, Stearns & Co. and worked at Dresdner Bank/ Dresdner Kleinwort Benson and Schroder Securities.
William Mack, most recently a portfolio manager/analyst at Bank of Butterfield in the Cayman Islands, returned to S&P as a consumer products analyst in London. Roderick Wallace joined as the equity insurance analyst in London. He was a senior analyst at Brown Vanneck Partners LLP.Greenhill & Co. hired principals Matt DeNatale and Zaid Abdul-Aleem and vice president Sally Adele Box for capital advisory. Abdul-Aleem joined the firm from Piedmont Investment Advisors, where he was a partner and executive vice president in charge of fundraising. Previously, he spent seven years at Morgan Stanley in corporate finance and institutional equities roles. Box will join the firm from QIC Global Infrastructure, while DeNatale will join the firm from Lazard, where he was a principal in the private fund advisory group.
Turnaround and restructuring investor Rutland Partners LLP appointed James Barrington-Wells as an investment executive. He worked in the audit and corporate finance divisions of Deloitte.
Signia Wealth brought in Ana María Harrison as a managing director, private equity.
Harrison joins from UBS Wealth Management, where she spent more than five years as a managing director on its private equity team.
Hogan Lovells announced that commercial trial lawyers Mark Goodman and Ethan Miller have joined the firm's San Francisco office as partners.
