AlixPartners LLP has named Mark B. Smith as a managing director in its financial services practice. Smith is the former chief operating officer and head of strategic initiatives execution for the Americas at Zurich Financial Services AG. He has also served as a member of Zurich's global operations council, and was a managing partner in the insurance practice of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (now Capgemini).
Revetas Capital Advisors LLP, an investment firm focused on central and eastern Europe, has appointed Markus Leininger to its investment committee. Leininger will also work with the London-based real estate investment adviser on deal negotiations, banking relationships and refinancing activities. Leininger is the former head of Central and Eastern Europe at commercial real estate financing specialist EuroHypo AG, a subsidiary of German bank Commerzbank AG, and had also worked at Rheinhyp AG in Frankfurt where he became head of its Eastern European operations.
Houston's Whitney Bank has named vice president Melanie Ottens as a middle-market relationship manager. Ottens has held a number of senior positions at Wells Fargo Bank, Texas Capital Bank and JPMorgan Chase & Co. Rick Ulloa and John L. Mason have also joined the bank as commercial banking manager and commercial banker, respectively; both are vice presidents. Ulloa previously held positions at Capital One and First Citizens Bank. Mason, a native of Leeds, U.K., has worked with the Houston commercial divisions of Vista Bank Texas and IronStone Bank, a subsidiary of First Citizens Bank & Trust.
Rutland Partners, a London-based firm focused on middle-market turnaround and restructuring investing in the U.K., has appointed Michael Reynolds as an investment executive. Reynolds joins Rutland from London-based investment bank Hawkpoint Partners' corporate advisory group, where he worked on debt restructuring deals, and sell- and buy-side transactions.
Law firm Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP announced the appointment of Todd M. Young and Peter D. Sullivan to its seven-member management committee. Young is the former co-leader of the firm's commercial transactions practice group. Sullivan previously headed the firm's business litigation department.
Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo PC has added Michael Renaud, James Wodarski and Michael McNamara to its intellectual property division in Boston. All three men previously held positions at Philadelphia law firm Pepper Hamilton LLP.
Law firm SNR Denton has hired Scott Toban to its Chicago office as a partner in its real estate practice. Toban joins the law firm from the Real Estate Institute, where he was a principal and general counsel. Before that, Toban was a partner at Mayer Brown LLP and an associate at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP.
