090508_AlbertoCribiore.pngOn Sept. 8, Alberto Cribiore will join Citigroup Inc.'s institutional clients group as a vice chairman, reporting to John Havens, the CEO of the group. He will work closely with investment banking co-heads Raymond McGuire and Alberto Verme. Cribiore was a member of the board and lead director of Merrill Lynch & Co., where he served as interim non-executive chairman and chairman of the search committee prior to the appointment of John Thain.

Cribiore (pictured) was also managing partner of Brera Capital Partners LLC, a private equity firm founded in 1997. He resigned from the Merrill board and will act as Brera's non-executive chairman as it continues its liquidation.

Prior to forming Brera, Cribiore was co-president and a partner at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Inc., which he joined in 1985. He was a senior vice president at Warner Communications Inc., where he was responsible for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.

Lazard hired Spiro Youakim as a managing director and senior member of its global metals and mining financial advisory team. Based in London, Youakim joins from Citigroup Inc., where he was a managing director and head of European metals and mining investment banking. Youakim began his investment banking career in 1991 at Crédit Lyonnais, and in 1996 joined Schroders plc.


J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. said Adam Green rejoined the firm as Northeast regional director for its private wealth management business. Green will manage more than 200 advisers serving high-net-worth clients in New England, New Jersey and New York.

Green spent the past two years at Lehman Brothers Inc., managing the structured investments Americas business and serving on the equities management committee. Before that, he spent 13 years in J.P. Morgan's investment banking unit.


Banc of America Securities LLC's chief investment strategist, Tom McManus, has joined Wachovia Corp.'s brokerage arm as chief investment officer and director of advisory services, based in St. Louis. McManus also spent time at Morgan Stanley and Goldman, Sachs & Co.


RAB Capital plc named Stephen Couttie as its CEO and made Charles Kirwan-Taylor an executive director. Couttie has been chief operating officer of RAB since July 2005 and finance director since April 2007. He replaces RAB co-founder Philip Richards, who will focus on his fund management responsibilities while remaining an executive director
of RAB.

Kirwan-Taylor was appointed head of sales in June.


Troika Capital Partners appointed Kanako Sekine as a managing director and chief operating officer. Previously, Sekine was director of the financial institutions team of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Troika Capital is the private equity arm of Russia's oldest and largest private investment bank, Troika Dialog.


Brown Rudnick LLP hired Sonya Van de Graaff as a partner in its bankruptcy and corporate restructuring group in London. Previously, Van de Graaff was a managing director principal and solicitor with Bear, Stearns International Ltd. She works with hedge funds, corporations and investment banks.


Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP said Kenju Watanabe joined the firm as a partner in Tokyo. Watanabe focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity and joint venture transactions. He arrives from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.


The Hong Kong office of K&L Gates welcomed Michael Chan as a partner in the firm's corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and securities practice. Chan arrives from Jones Day.


Nixon Peabody LLP brought in Orlando Cabrera as counsel in its affordable housing practice, based in Washington. Cabrera was at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he was assistant secretary for public and Indian housing. Cabrera remains CEO and president of National Community Renaissance, a national nonprofit affordable housing developer.


In New York, Baker & McKenzie LLP tapped Nancy Thevenin as special counsel to its international arbitration practice group. Thevenin joins the firm from the ICC International Court of Arbitration, where she was the deputy director of arbitration and ADR for North America.


James Warren joined Winston & Strawn LLP's Washington office as a partner in the tax group. He covers the legal, accounting and regulatory aspects of utility taxation. Warren was a partner with Thelen Reid Brown Raysman &

Bradley Arant Rose & White LLP expanded its construction and procurement practice, adding William Purdy and Ralph Germany Jr. as partners in its Jackson, Miss., office. They closed their boutique firm, Purdy & Germany PLLC.
