GMAC Financial Services tapped former Bear Stearns Cos. executive Thomas Marano to be chairman and CEO of its mortgage unit, Residential Capital LLC. Marano was named ResCap's non-executive chairman in April, and joined Cerberus Capital Management LP, which controls GMAC, as a managing director. Previously, he spent 25 years at Bear Stearns and was most recently a director and head of the firm's global mortgage trading and origination operations. In his new role, Marano remains a Cerberus employee and reports to GMAC chief executive Alvaro de Molina. He replaces Jim Jones, who is leaving the company.
GMAC also announced other changes. Joshua Weintraub, a Cerberus employee and an executive committee member of the ResCap board, will become ResCap vice chairman. Tony Renzi, who serves as COO of ResCap's U.S. residential funding group, was named ResCap COO, a new position. And Jerry Lombardo, who works in operations for Cerberus, joins the company as treasury executive. He succeeds treasurer Bill Casey, who has left ResCap. Northern Rock plc has named Barclays plc vice chairman Gary Hoffman as its new chief executive. He will step down from the Barclays board Aug. 31 and join the U.K. mortgage lender Oct. 1. Hoffman spent 26 years at Barclays in various roles, including chief executive of Barclaycard and chairman of U.K. banking. Walter Bettinger II will become CEO and a board member of Charles Schwab Corp. effective Oct. 1. Currently, he serves as president and chief operating officer of the brokerage. Bettinger succeeds Charles Schwab, who will remain executive chairman. Piper Jaffray & Co. has added Tina Neal as a senior vice president in its new Richmond, Va., office. She joins from Ferris, Baker Watts Inc., where she was a public finance banker. Stanford Group Co. named Myles Lavelle managing director and head of institutional sales. Lavelle previously worked for Reuters Insight as director of research and sales. Based in New York, he reports to the firm's managing director of institutional sales and equity trading, Richard Parker. In San Francisco, Stanford named Sherman Bartley senior vice president of sales. He moves from Pacific Growth Equities LLC, where he had been a senior member of the institutional sales group. Barclays Capital has added Adrian McGowan as a managing director and head of foreign exchange trading in Singapore. McGowan moves from Deutsche Bank AG in London and will report to Ivan Ritossa, Barclays' global head of FX and head of global markets trading for Asia Pacific. Barclays also announced promotions for Lutfey Siddiqi, a managing director and Asia-Pacific head of corporate FX and risk advisory, and Dean Tonkin, head of FX trading in Japan and regional head of FX forwards. Dahlman Rose & Co. LLC named Mark Schulte managing director and head of transportation investment banking. Previously, Schulte was a managing director of Seabury Transportation Holdings LLC, an advisory and restructuring firm focused on aviation. Millennium Technology Ventures named Jonathan Glass its chief financial officer. Glass was previously the vice president of finance and controller for Venrock Associates. Rory Cohen, a hedge fund and asset management attorney and former Bear Stearns Cos. managing director, has joined Venable LLP as a partner. Earlier in his career, Cohen worked at Prudential Equity Group as a senior analyst. He will be based in Venable's New York office. Jones Day has hired two partners from Kilpatrick Stockton LLP. Cindy Brazell focuses her practice on commercial and banking transactions and real estate finance. Douglas Gosden works on commercial and banking transactions and debt restructurings. Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP has added Jerry Goldfeder as special counsel in its litigation and government relations practice. Goldfeder, an election lawyer, was most recently special counsel to New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and earlier was in private practice as a trial and appellate attorney. He will represent clients in New York and Washington. Evan Drutman has joined Alston & Bird LLP's financial services and products group as a partner. Earlier, he was a shareholder with Greenberg Traurig LLP. Media and entertainment law firm Roberts Ritholz Levy Sanders Chidekel & Fields LLP has added new partners David Chidekel and Peter Fields. Both were principals at Fish & Richardson PC. Additionally, Joshua Sessler and Michael Cirelli have joined the firm as of counsel. They previously worked for online video distributor GuyTech USA Inc., known as Dragonfly, and Loud Records LLC, respectively. |
