RobertMcCannBig.pngRobert McCann, who was vice chairman and president of the prized global wealth management division at Merrill Lynch & Co., is leaving just days after Bank of America Corp. completed its acquisition of the Wall Street bank. McCann (pictured) did not get the top spot as leader of global wealth and investment management at the combined firm.

Instead, he was named head of the brokerage unit, reporting to someone other than ex-Merrill chief John Thain, who is now president of global banking, securities and wealth management at BofA-Merrill.

McCann joined Merrill in 1982, left in 2003 and returned shortly thereafter to head the brokerage business.

Quinten Stevens, head of Wachovia Corp.'s equity group in the corporate and investment banking unit, is leaving the bank. New York-based Stevens is reportedly starting a hedge fund. Before Wachovia, he worked at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.


Pioneer Investments named Bill Taylor a senior vice president and head of relationship management and strategic alliances in the US. He reports to Joseph Kringdon, head of U.S. retail distribution and president of Pioneer Funds Distributor Inc. At Evergreen Investments, Taylor was president of managed assets and head of national broker dealer. Before Evergreen, he was a director and senior vice president at MFS Investment Management.


FTI Consulting Inc. has acquired CXO LLC. Based in Dallas and led by principals Michael Katzenstein, Brian Kushner and Stephen Dube, CXO focuses on bankruptcy debtor advisory, interim management, crisis management, turnaround consulting, operational due diligence, creditor advisory and financial-operational restructuring.

Katzenstein, Kushner and Dube joined FTI as senior managing directors, while Chad Coben, Seth Davis, Bob Gary, John Debus and Glenn Tobias joined as managing directors. They join the communications and media practice in the corporate finance-restructuring unit of FTI.


Wood & Bender LLP has combined with insurance recovery law firm Anderson Kill & Olick PC. The deal adds Wood & Bender's 14 attorneys to Anderson Kill's 79 attorneys. The lawyers joining Anderson Kill Wood & Bender LLP include four partners: David Wood, David Bender Jr., David Shaneyfelt and Caroline Hurtado.


Huron Consulting Group Inc. expanded its health and education consulting practice in the Middle East, acquiring Nextmove, a Riyadh, Saudi Arabia-based consulting firm. Nextmove was founded in 2003 by Maher Kaddoura, who was a regional managing partner of Accenture before forming the firm. Nextmove has about 35 professionals with offices in Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Amman, Jordan.

Separately, Huron promoted 17 directors to managing directors. Jeffrey Beard and Arun Mani cover corporate consulting. Health and education specialists include: Ben Foster, Debjit Ghosh, Leah Guidry, Stuart Horowitz, Laura Jacquin, George Kis, Amy Lincoln, David Klipa, Matthew Lester, Nelson Lowman, Travis Marr, Christopher Rohn, Hazel Seabrook and Kevin Smith. Jana Ames handles legal consulting.


Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP said Thomas Lang, a senior trial counsel for the Federal Trade Commission who led the government's trial teams in recent merger cases, joined as a partner in the antitrust practice in Washington. Jonathan Snare, deputy solicitor of labor at the Department of Labor, will join the firm as a partner in the labor and employment practice in several weeks.

Also in Washington, Charles O'Connor, who was general counsel for Maersk Inc. for five years, returned to the firm as senior counsel. Before Maersk, O'Connor was a partner at Morgan Lewis from 1968 through 2003.


In New York, Jonathan Birenbaum joined Winston & Strawn LLP as a partner focusing on the acquisition, disposition and financing of energy and infrastructure projects. Previously, he practiced at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP.


Duane Morris LLP hired William Schrag as a partner in its business reorganization and financial restructuring practice, resident in New York. He was a partner at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP. William Heuer, also from Dewey & LeBoeuf, will join Schrag as special counsel for the group.

The firm recently hired a 20-lawyer construction practice from Thelen LLP in New York. The team is led by partners Allen Ross, Frederick Cohen, Arthur Silverman and Richard Dyer. Other partners include Michael Chartan, Dennis Konner, Kenneth Lazaruk and John Wojak Jr.


Taxation and benefits partner Jeffrey Levin joined the New York office of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP. Levin arrives from Holland & Knight LLP.


Levenfeld Pearlstein LLC elected three partners: Christopher Heintskill, litigation; Amy Mahone, real estate and finance; and corporate lawyer Matthew Zakaras.
