Hedge fund Pequot Capital Management Inc., led by Arthur Samberg, is shutting down amid an insider-trading investigation. In a letter to investors, Samberg (pictured) said that "public disclosures about the continuing investigation have cast a cloud over the firm and have become a source of personal distraction."
The firm plans to liquidate its core funds and return cash to investors while spinning out the Matawin portfolio under Mike Corasaniti and the special opportunities fund under Rob Webster and Paul Mellinger.
Barclays Capital has hired Fergus Slinger as a managing director of equity derivatives distribution. Six months ago, Slinger left Deutsche Bank AG, where he was a managing
director of European equity derivatives flow sales. He reports to Yannick Mallegol, head of equities distribution for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Last week, the firm hired Timothy Last as a managing director, head of equity derivatives flow sales, non-Japan Asia. Based in Hong Kong, he reports to David Campbell, head of North Asia distribution, and to Nicholas Moreira, head of equities, Asia-Pacific. Last was with Merrill Lynch & Co. in Hong Kong, where he was head of equity derivatives sales in Asia-Pacific.
