David Law, chairman of investment banking for the Middle East and North Africa at Morgan Stanley, will join Standard Chartered plc as a managing director and regional head of origination and client coverage for MENA.
Clark Hutchison and Bill Templer, co-heads of exchange-traded derivatives at UBS, joined the exchange-traded futures and options business at Morgan Stanley to lead a team of more than 250 people.
Investment bank Cowen Group Inc. will acquire asset management firm Ramius LLC for about $195 million. As a result, Peter Cohen, founder and managing member of Ramius, will be chairman and CEO of the combined company, and Greg Malcolm, CEO and president of Cowen, will continue to serve in those capacities for the broker-dealer subsidiary. Morgan Stark, a Ramius managing member, will be CEO of Ramius' internal asset management businesses and Thomas Strauss, a Ramius managing member, will continue to be CEO of the Ramius fund-of-funds group. The combined company will have a 10-member board, composed of five members nominated by Ramius, four members from Cowen's board and one member nominated by a significant stakeholder in the combined entity. At closing, the firm will retain the Cowen name and the New York headquarters. The combined company will have about 578 employees.
