Cheyne Capital Management (UK) LLP appointed Jorge Giampaoli as partner and portfolio manager of the new Cheyne equity macro fund. Giampaoli joins from Morgan Stanley, where he worked for eight years, in charge of proprietary trading for European equities.
The firm has also appointed Chris Goekjian as a partner and chief investment officer, reporting to CEO Jonathan Lourie. Goekjian was CEO and CIO of Altedge Capital (UK) Ltd., a London fund-of-funds manager he founded in 2001 and whose business will join Cheyne's over the next four months. Earlier, Goekjian was head of the global fixed income division of Credit Suisse Group's investment bank.
Cowen Group Inc. hired Todd Ackerman as a managing director and the head of the institutional sales desk in Boston. James Lilly joined as a managing director in the investment banking group to lead the healthcare services practice. Ackerman will report to William Herbert, head of sales, while New York-based Lilly will report to Peter Reikes, head of healthcare investment banking. Ackerman spent nine years with CIBC and Oppenheimer & Co. Lilly was most recently with Merrill Lynch & Co., where he was a managing director in the global healthcare group. Before joining Merrill in 2005, he was co-head of the healthcare group at Jefferies & Co. for three years and worked at Piper Jaffray & Co. for 11 years.
