EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
  • Citigroup Inc. named Shengman Zhang chairman of Asia Pacific
  • Abraaj Capital hired 15-year Deutsche Bank veteran Ashok Aram as a managing director
  • Diamond Capital Partners added Katherine Makinney as a managing partner

Citigroup Inc. named Shengman Zhang chairman of Asia Pacific, Stephen Bird and Shirish Apte as CEOs of Asia Pacific, and Bill Mills and Alberto Verme as CEOs of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Zhang (pictured), who joined Citi in 2006, was previously vice chairman of global banking and president of Asia Pacific. Bird was chief executive for North Asia and head of consumer banking and global cards for Asia Pacific. He joined Citi in 1998.

Apte, a 26-year Citi veteran, moves to Asia Pacific after serving as CEO of the Central and Eastern European region. Mills was CEO for Western Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Mills has been with Citi for 27 years. Verme was most recently co-head of global investment banking, based in Dubai. Verme joined Salomon Brothers in 1994.


Dubai-based Abraaj Capital hired 15-year Deutsche Bank AG veteran Ashok Aram as a managing director. Aram was in London as head of equity capital markets, debt capital markets and corporate coverage and sales in Central & Eastern Europe, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Middle East and Africa.

Earlier this year, the firm appointed Ahmed Badreldin, who was previously at Barclays Capital, as senior director in leveraged finance, as an executive director at the firm.
