PaulaRosputReynoldsBig.pngRichardBoothAIG.pngAmerican International Group Inc., hit hard by bad mortgage bets, hired Paula Rosput Reynolds as vice chairman and chief restructuring officer. Reynolds will oversee AIG's divestiture of assets and will serve as chief liaison with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. She reports to AIG new chairman and CEO Edward Liddy.

Reynolds (pictured left) became Safeco Corp. president and chief executive in January 2006 and chairman in May 2008. Before that, she was chairman, president and CEO of AGL Resources Inc., an Atlanta-based energy holding company.

Also, Richard Booth, previously senior vice president and chief administrative officer, was named vice chairman of transition planning and CAO. Booth (pictured right) will be responsible for restructuring AIG's corporate center, overseeing the separation of companies being sold by AIG and executing AIG's transition to its new organizational structure. Booth will continue to serve as chairman of HSB Group Inc. until it is sold. He also reports to Liddy.

Booth served as president and CEO of HSB from 2000 to 2007. Before that, he spent 30 years in various insurance industry positions, including president, chief operating officer and director of Travelers Corp., and executive vice president and a director of Phoenix Cos.

CastleOak Securities LP made five hires for its capital markets team.

Joining the investment banking team is managing director Michael Turner, who has worked at Blaylock & Co. and Prudential Securities Inc. (now Pruco Securities LLC).

Managing directors Jeffery Bates, Franklin Sacks and Len Bilancione and vice president Christopher Dirkes join fixed-income sales.


Aquiline Capital Partners LLC, a New York private equity firm investing in financial services, hired Mitchell Caplan as an executive adviser. Caplan was most recently CEO and director of E*Trade Financial Corp. He will cover the retail financial services sector.

Before E*Trade, Caplan was vice chairman, president and chief executive of Telebank and Telebanc Financial Corp. Prior to forming Telebank, Caplan was an associate with Shearman & Sterling LLP.


European midmarket private equity house Silverfleet Capital tapped Johannes Huttunen as an executive. Huttunen joins the team from European Capital, where he was an associate, investing in buyouts of U.K. midmarket businesses. Prior to that, he worked in mergers and acquisitions at Deutsche Bank AG, where he was an analyst.


JER Partners said Alejandro Marina joined the firm as a vice president, Latin American investments. He will be responsible for placing equity investments in real estate ventures in Mexico and Central America. Marina reports to Sergio Hernandez, director of JER's Mexico office.

Prior to JER, Marina was a managing director of originations at Mira Cos., an affiliate of the Black Creek Group. Before Mira, Marina was director, equity Mexico for GE Real Estate.


Technology Crossover Ventures took on Rob Solomon as a venture partner. Solomon, a former CEO of travel search engine company SideStep Inc., will work on investment opportunities in the Internet sector and will be based in the Palo Alto, Calif., headquarters.


Professional services firm RSM McGladrey Inc. promoted Michael Grossman to managing director. Based in New York, Grossman helps lead the transaction support services practice on the East Coast and is active in buy-side transactions. Grossman has worked with private equity and subordinated funds and has assisted companies with strategic acquisitions and divestitures.


Latham & Watkins LLP announced that Jackson Taylor joined as a partner in the firm's London restructuring and insolvency group and a member of the finance department. He focuses on cross-border corporate debt restructuring and joins from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP.


Blank Rome LLP formed a financial reform task force led by Peter Peyser, head of Blank Rome Government Relations LLC in Washington, and Lawrence Flick II, a corporate finance partner in New York.


Kirkland & Ellis International LLP expanded its European restructuring group. Jason Salman joined as a partner and Mark Knight as an associate. Paul Atherton will arrive as a partner in November.

Salman joins from the London office of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, where he was special counsel. Knight worked at DLA Piper.

Atherton will join from Sidley Austin LLP, where he focused on debtor representations in cases with cross-border aspects. Prior to Sidley, Atherton spent five years in the corporate recovery department of Pinsent Masons LLP.


In New York, King & Spalding LLP tapped bankruptcy lawyer Arthur Steinberg as a partner. Steinberg joins from Kaye Scholer LLP, where he was a partner and co-head of the business reorganization and creditors' rights department.
