Nomura Holdings Inc. named two former Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. bankers as regional heads in its global equity operations in Europe and Asia, effective Nov. 1. Rachid Bouzouba will be head of equity in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, while Sigurbjorn Thorkelsson becomes head of equity in Asia Pacific, including Japan. Both will report to Hiromasa Yamazaki, head of global equity. On Oct. 14, Nomura closed the $525 million acquisition of most parts of Lehman Brothers' Asia-Pacific franchise, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, India, Thailand and Japan.
Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP elected David Williams as CEO and Kerry Francis as chairman of the board for the U.S. Williams will replace Frank Piantidosi, who will become chief executive of Deloitte North America Financial Advisory LLC. Williams spent seven years with Deloitte FAS. Francis was managing partner for the Northern Pacific region of Deloitte FAS. Emergence Capital Partners brought in Richard Yanowitch as a venture partner. Yanowitch recently served as a venture partner for Accel Partners, vice chairman of NDS Group plc and as a senior consultant to News Corp., where he reported to chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch. Earlier, Yanowitch worked at Internet services provider VeriSign Inc. and database provider Sybase Inc. Technology venture capital firm Norwest Venture Partners recently said Sohil Chand joined NVP India as managing director. Based in Mumbai, he will focus on equity investments in Indian companies across such sectors as telecom, technology, financial services, infrastructure and manufacturing. Before joining NVP, Chand was an executive director in Goldman, Sachs & Co.'s Asian special situations group. He also worked in Goldman's investment banking group. Private equity firm hired Jon Westberg as a vice president of leveraged finance. Most recently, Westberg worked in the syndicated and leveraged finance division at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., where he structured multilender debt financings on behalf of corporate issuers with deal sizes ranging from $50 million to more than $3 billion. Before J.P. Morgan, Westberg was a banking analyst with Bank One Corp., covering debt capital markets, commercial real estate and middle-market lending. Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP will welcome Megan Tang as a partner, effective Nov. 10. Based in the firm's Hong Kong office, she will focus on the firm's China practice and advise on capital markets transactions for investment banking and corporate clients. Tang was counsel at Shearman & Sterling LLP and practiced in its New York, Singapore and Hong Kong offices. Before Shearman, she worked at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati PC hired Jonathan Zhu as a partner in its tax practice. Zhu was a tax partner at Heller Ehrman LLP in San Francisco. Previously, he was an engagement manager at McKinsey & Co., advising on strategy, operations and organizational matters in enterprise software, networking and wireless communications, as well as pharmaceuticals. Winston & Strawn LLP said environmental attorney Joseph Armao joined its San Francisco office as partner. Previously, Armao was a shareholder with Heller Ehrman LLP, serving as the chair of the firm's environmental department. He began his career with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. August Horvath joined Kelley Drye & Warren LLP as special counsel in the advertising and antitrust practice groups. He was previously with Heller Ehrman LLP. Horvath has handled civil and criminal litigation before the U.S. Department of Justice antitrust division; Federal Trade Commission investigations and litigation in conduct and merger and acquisitions; and private litigation. Robert Badal is now a partner in the antitrust and competition and intellectual property litigation practice groups at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in Los Angeles. Badal was a partner at Heller Ehrman LLP. Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz PC added Patrick Boyle as a partner in its commercial litigation group. He was a partner with Thacher Proffitt & Wood LLP. Boyle has covered complex corporate, insurance and liability cases for more than a decade. In New York, Dorsey & Whitney LLP tapped David Scheffel as a partner in the trial group. Scheffel specializes in litigation in the mortgage industry. He also litigates complex commercial matters involving breach of contract, tortious interference with contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, antitrust violations and class actions.
