BrianBrilleBig.pngBank of America Corp. named five business heads in connection with its yet-to-be-completed acquisition of Merrill Lynch & Co. BofA's Brian Brille (pictured) will head corporate and investment banking in the Americas. Merrill's Jim Forbes will head corporate and investment banking in Asia-Pacific, while Mark Aedy will head those operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Joel Van Dusen, from Bank of America, was named head of global corporate banking, while Jeff Kaplan, from Merrill Lynch, was named head of global mergers and acquisitions and financial sponsors.

Blaylock Robert Van LLC, an investment bank and financial services company, opened a Chicago office and hired Dudley Brown to handle its Midwest expansion. Brown most recently served as CEO of Jackson Securities LLC. Earlier, he was president and CEO of Berean Capital Inc., an institutional broker-dealer he founded and oversaw for nearly 15 years.


Brewin Dolphin Investment Banking made six promotions: Jamie Cumming becomes deputy head of investment banking; Nick Owen, head of corporate broking; Michael Parkinson, head of research; David Green, head of sales and trading; Matt Davis, deputy head of corporate finance; and Jock Maxwell-Macdonald was named deputy head of sales. BDIB advises U.K. small and midcap companies.


Howrey LLP will take on most of the construction practice of San Francisco-based Thelen LLP. Stephen O'Neal, now chairman of Thelen; Andrew Ness, managing partner of the Washington office; and John Heisse, chair, construction and government contracts, lead the group of more than 40 Thelen lawyers joining Howrey, 18 of whom are partners. Thelen's practice has been involved in major construction projects including the Hoover Dam and Golden Gate Bridge.


Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP welcomed partner William Cattan and senior associate Joanna Addison to the firm in Doha, Qatar. Cattan focuses on the liquefied natural gas industry and has covered project finance, equipment finance and bank finance transactions. He was previously a partner in the Qatar office of Patton Boggs LLP. Addison also practiced there.

Until the Doha launch later this year, Cattan will be based in New York, while Addison will reside in London.


In Paris, Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP hired six attorneys from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP. The group includes partner Maurice Lantourne and five associates. Lantourne, a bankruptcy lawyer, also covers commercial and white collar criminal matters.


Bingham McCutchen LLP added three partners to its antitrust and trade regulation practice group in Washington. They are former Clifford Chance LLP lawyers Leiv Blad, Jon Roellke and Boyd Cloern. Blad, who served as Clifford Chance's Washington office managing partner since 2004, and Roellke helped lead the U.S. antitrust practice at that firm.


Bankruptcy and commercial workout lawyer Robert Hoelscher joined McCarter & English LLP's Philadelphia office as a partner. Hoelscher was assistant general counsel for Wachovia Corp.


In New York, a group of three corporate and securities lawyers, led by partner Jonathan Russo, joined Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. Russo brings with him counsel Herman Sassower and senior associate Timothy Gladden. The team comes in from Thelen LLP.


Following 22 years in the U.S. Attorney's office for the Southern District of Texas, former U.S. Attorney Don DeGabrielle joined Fulbright & Jaworski LLP's international governmental investigations and white collar defense practice.


Stoel Rives LLP said Gregory Jenner joined its Minneapolis office as a member of the taxation group. Jenner will focus on complex tax-related transactions, partnerships and joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions. Earlier, he served as acting assistant and deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury for tax policy from 2002 through 2004.


Taylor Wessing LLP appointed William Belcher as a partner in the financial institutions and markets group, specializing in equity capital markets. Belcher joins Taylor Wessing from Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, where he was a senior associate.

Separately, the firm tapped Len Murray as a partner in the information technology, telecoms and competition group. Murray, formerly a senior associate at Baker & McKenzie LLP, covers public and regulatory law litigation, often with a commercial background involving high-profile judicial reviews.


Foley & Lardner LLP hired litigator David Hickerson as a partner in Washington, working with the white collar defense, securities enforcement and litigation, and general commercial litigation practices. Before this, Hickerson was a partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP.


Sullivan & Cromwell LLP will name five corporate partners on Jan. 1: York Schnorbus in Frankfurt; and New Yorkers Andrew Gladin, Camille Orme, Melissa Sawyer and Glen Schleyer.


Legal search firm Major, Lindsey & Africa LLC added Miranda Petrillo as a managing director in its associate practice group. Petrillo practiced commercial litigation for more than six years in San Francisco, first at Thelen Reid & Priest LLP, and then at Bay Capital Legal.

Glad to see Brille and Van Doofen (Dusen) pushed out. Neither one added any value to CIBK, all they did was eat at the trough
