TimothyPohlMovers.pngOn Jan. 7, Timothy Pohl will join Lazard's financial advisory business as a managing director in the restructuring group, based in Chicago. Pohl is global co-leader of the 100-plus attorney corporate restructuring practice of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. He spent 10 years there and practiced for eight years at Jones Day before that.

Derivatives exchange CME Group Inc. hired Marcus Katz as a director of interest rate products. Katz was most recently founder and managing partner of Winnemac Investments LLC, a fixed-income asset management company in Chicago. He was also head of risk solutions for Lehman Brothers Inc. in New York and global head of corporate derivatives for Bank of America Corp. in Chicago.


White & Case LLP added partner Jan Lombach to its corporate-merger and acquisition and capital markets practice in Stockholm. Lombach focuses on securities regulation and corporate governance transactions. He was a partner with Swedish law firm Advokatfirman Vinge KB.

In New York, the firm enlisted Joseph Angland as a partner in its antitrust and competition practice. From 2006 to 2007, Angland served as chair of the American Bar Association's Section of Antitrust Law, an association of competition lawyers. He also spent 29 years with Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, most recently as co-chair of the firm's antitrust practice group.

White & Case also expanded its bank and insurance regulatory practice, adding partner Ernest Patrikis in New York. He served in senior positions for 30 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and for eight years at American International Group Inc. Patrikis comes in from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, where he was in charge of the financial services regulatory practice.


Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP added John Lavelle Jr. as a partner in its litigation practice, resident in Philadelphia. He covers commercial, product liability and class action litigation. Lavelle joins from Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll LLP, where he was the head of the products liability group.

Separately, the firm tapped two attorneys for its employee benefits and executive compensation practice. Benjamin Delancy, who was a partner at Thelen LLP and chair of its employee benefits practice, arrives as a partner in Washington. Associate Vicki Nielsen joins him.


Thomas McWilliams joined Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP's intellectual property practice as a partner. Before Gibbons PC in Philadelphia, McWilliams was a partner at Reed Smith LLP.


Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP announced that Gary Cohen, vice president and chief counsel of Fireman's Fund Insurance Co., will join the firm's San Francisco office as a partner in the insurance regulatory practice on Jan. 5. Cohen previously served as general counsel for the California Public Utilities Commission from 2001 to 2003 and practiced at Keker & Van Nest LLP for more than 15 years.


Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP tapped Alberto Del Din, Lorenza Talpo and Alessandro Stoppa as partners. Del Din and Stoppa will be based in Milan, while Talpo will work from London. Del Din is now a partner with Bonelli Erede Pappalardo and covers banking and finance, focusing on restructurings, structured finance, real estate finance, acquisition finance and project finance.


In Chicago, Greenberg Traurig LLP hired Andrew Cardonick as a shareholder in the business reorganization and bankruptcy practice. Previously, Cardonick was a principal and member of the management committee at Goldberg Kohn Bell Black Rosenbloom & Moritz Ltd.


The New York office of K&L Gates LLP welcomed Eli Mattioli as a partner in the firm's commercial disputes practice. Mattioli joins K&L Gates from Thelen LLP, where he was a partner.


Troutman Sanders LLP added four attorneys from Thelen LLP to its tax practice group in Washington: Of counsel Raymond Dacek; partners David Jacobson and Howard Cooper; and associate Gerald Towne.


Real estate lawyer Christine Flion was elected managing partner of Taylor Wessing LLP's Brussels office. She will continue to lead the real estate practice.


On Jan. 1, Laila Abou-Rahme will become a partner in McKee Nelson LLP's business litigation group. She handles securities litigation and internal investigations and was previously counsel in the firm's New York office.


In Washington, Duane Morris LLP brought in Andres Benach and Thomas Ragland as partners in the immigration practice. They were formerly shareholders at Maggio & Kattar PC, where they served as the leaders of its immigration litigation practice.


Legal search firm Major, Lindsey & Africa LLC hired Romy Buchman as a managing director in the in-house practice group in New York. She will cover the financial services sector. Before MLA, she worked in the Sydney office of Taylor Root, a legal recruiting firm.

MLA also added Cynthia Graser as a managing director in the in-house practice group in Dallas. Graser spent six years at Russell Reynolds Associates and was manager of attorney employment in the Houston office of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP.
