UBS Investment Bank will open an equity research office in Dubai to cover stocks both in the United Arab Emirates and across the broader Gulf Cooperation Council region. Stephen Andrews, now European banks analyst at UBS, will relocate to Dubai in August to become head of Middle East research and banks analyst. UBS appointed Per Larsson as CEO for the Middle East and North Africa and as a member of the group managing board. Larsson will join Oct. 1, based in Dubai. Larsson was CEO of Borse Dubai and CEO and board member of the Dubai International Financial Exchange. Peter Burnett will continue as CEO of the investment bank in MENA until Sept. 30, when he will take up a new role.Also in the Middle East, John Fraser, chairman and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management, will become chairman of UBS Saudi Arabia, and Mohammed Al Dhoheyan, now CEO of the Development and Management House for Investments, will become vice chairman. Mohamed Sammakia will become chief executive of UBS Saudi Arabia, subject to regulatory approvals. He is now a managing director in UBS' fixed income division and president of the Middle East region, based in London.
Bank of America Corp. made nine hires for its equity research platform. They include managing directors Joseph Buckley, restaurants; Robert Hopkins, medical devices; and James Kissane, information technology services. Principal Suzanne Schiavelli covers specialty finance. Vice presidents include Kuni Chen, metals and mining; Kevin Fischbeck, healthcare facilities; Bryan Kraft, media, cable and entertainment; Brian Wright, managed care; and Brad Zelnick, applications software. Buckley spent 23 years at Bear Stearns Cos.; Hopkins and Fischbeck were with Lehman Brothers Inc.; Kissane and Zelnick also hail from Bear; Schiavelli joins from Morgan Stanley; Chen worked at Hapoalim Securities USA; Kraft arrives from Credit Suisse Group; and Wright comes in from Jefferies & Co. Dahlman Rose & Co. LLC tapped Jason Seidl as a director in the equity research department, focusing on airfreight and surface transportation. Seidl joins from Credit Suisse Group. In San Francisco, Thomas Weisel Partners Group Inc. hired Fitzhugh Taylor as a director and senior equity research analyst, covering the restaurant industry. Previously, Taylor held senior research positions at Banc of America Securities LLC and Robertson Stephens & Co. Willamette Management Associates hired Stuart Gollin as a principal to direct its reorganization and bankruptcy services. He joins from Weiser LLP and is based in New York. Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP hired of counsel Lawrence Kaplan and senior associate Kevin Petrasic for its global banking and financial institutions practice group, based in Washington. Kaplan practiced at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, while Petrasic worked at the U.S. Department of Treasury's Office of Thrift Supervision. Kaplan was also counsel in the financial institutions regulatory group at Sidley Austin LLP and an associate at Hogan & Hartson LLP after serving as a senior attorney at the OTS. In Shanghai, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati PC brought in Eva Wang as a partner covering corporate and securities law, specializing in the technology sector. She most recently served as general counsel and vice president of legal affairs at semiconductor firm Spreadtrum Communications Inc. Earlier, Wang practiced in the Silicon Valley offices of Wilson Sonsini and Shearman & Sterling LLP. She began her career with Holland & Knight LLP in New York. Jones Day hired two partners for its labor and employment team. In San Francisco, Curt Kirschner arrives from O'Melveny & Myers LLP. Washington-based Eric Dreiband, former general counsel of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, hails from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. Recently in the group, M. Carter DeLorme joined in Washington from Winston & Strawn LLP, and Robert Naeve and Steven Zadravecz joined in Irvine, Calif., from Morrison & Foerster LLP. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP tapped three partners for its intellectual property practice. Steven Routh, William Wright and Sten Jensen come to the firm from Hogan & Hartson LLP. Routh and Jensen work from Washington; Wright is based in Los Angeles. Edward Malone and Michael Towne were added as partners at Chicago-based Barack Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg LLP. Malone, a civil litigator and white-collar criminal defense attorney, was formerly a partner at Jenner & Block LLP. Towne, who joins the tax and business planning group, was a partner with Winston & Strawn LLP. Angela Hubbell, executive compensation/Erisa and tax attorney Alan Kennard joined Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon LLP as partners in the firm's business transactions department.
