Ken Wilson, chairman of Goldman, Sachs & Co.'s financial institutions group will help with the country's banking crisis. The move is not temporary, according to a source. Wilson got the call, literally, from President George W. Bush to advise former Goldman colleague and current Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr. on the current crisis. Wilson is supposed to give more of a macro perspective on the situation. Wilson joined Goldman in 1998 from Lazard.
Citigroup Inc. said 23-year veteran Michael Klein, who is chairman of the bank's institutional clients group, has decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities. Klein has been chairman of ICG and vice chairman of Citi since March. Before this, he was chairman and co-CEO of Citi Markets and Banking, responsible for global corporate and investment banking and global transaction services. He was previously CEO of global banking, a position he held from the group's inception in February 2004. Klein joined the mergers and acquisitions group of Salomon Brothers after graduating from the Wharton School of Business in 1985. Barclays Capital hired Trace McCreary as a managing director and head of U.S. infrastructure finance. Based in New York, he reports to Rick Van Zijl, managing director and co-head of U.S. leveraged finance. McCreary was most recently a senior managing director in the global industries group at Bear Stearns Cos. Previously, he worked at Credit Suisse Group and Citigroup Inc. EIM USA, the U.S. affiliate of the EIM SA fund of hedge funds group, named Paulo Peres director of risk management. Peres arrives from J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., where he was an executive director in the hedge funds and financial institutions credit groups. He joined J.P. Morgan in 1992. Piper Jaffray & Co. hired three public finance bankers from UBS for its municipal finance banking platform. Bernie Mikell joins Piper as a senior vice president in Sacramento, Calif. Russell Reyes is based in Los Angeles and Rosalyn Chen will work from Orange County, Calif. Brian McConville was tapped as a director and foreign exchange forwards trader at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc. McConville rejoined from HSBC plc, where he was a senior vice president. Earlier, McConville spent 13 years at Deutsche Bank and Bankers Trust Co. ING Clarion Real Estate Securities hired Hong Kong-based investment analyst Erik Lang and London-based equity trader Jonathan Brailey. Lang was most recently with LaSalle Investment Management Securities LP. Brailey previously worked at trading firms Nyfix International Ltd. and ITG Europe. In Singapore, Russell Investments brought in Martin Lamb as head of property in Asia Pacific for its real estate team. Lamb previously worked with Morgan Stanley Real Estate, AIG Global Real Estate and O'Connor Group. Prior to Russell Investments, he was a senior vice president of Gerrity International, a retail shopping center developer in China. Private equity firm Avista Capital Partners retained John Huff as an industry adviser. Huff was formerly president and chief executive of Oceaneering International Inc., a global oilfield provider of engineered services and products. Before that, Huff was managing partner of investment bank Falcon Partners Inc. Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP announced that Bill Hollaway joined its Washington office as partner from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. Hollaway focuses on energy transactions and energy regulatory matters, particularly involving the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Earlier, Hollaway was counsel in the energy group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Axiom Legal said Edward Lee and Ashwini Chhabra joined the firm's New York office to head the life sciences, and business and technology practices, respectively. Lee was a corporate associate with Goodwin Procter LLP. Chhabra was a senior policy adviser in New York for Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration, covering economic development and education matters. He began his legal career at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, providing merger and acquisition counsel and later practiced at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP. Bell, Boyd & Lloyd LLP hired four attorneys. David B. Fournier joins as a partner in the intellectual property group from Howrey LLP. Melissa Siebert returns as a partner in the labor and employment group. Sharon De Vault comes from Mayer Brown LLP as a partner in the estates and trusts group; and Brent Williams joins as an associate in the corporate group from Mayer Brown. Reed Smith LLP added John Shugrue as a partner in its insurance recovery group, resident in Chicago. Shugrue was formerly a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. Labor and employment lawyer Cynthia Emry joined Jackson Lewis LLP as of counsel in its Los Angeles office. She was previously of counsel with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP. |
