Credit Suisse Group named James Leigh-Pemberton as U.K. chief executive, reporting to Eric Varvel, CEO of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Leigh-Pemberton is a managing director in the investment banking division. He joined Credit Suisse in 1994 from S.G. Warburg Securities, where he worked for 15 years.

Separately, CS tapped Yoshiyasu Okihira for its Japanese equity research department as an analyst covering the food, beverage and tobacco sector. Okihira arrives from Nomura Securities Co. Ltd., where he had worked since 1993.

London's GLG Partners Inc. hired Goldman, Sachs & Co. partner Driss Ben-Brahim to develop a special situations platform that will include the firm's emerging markets special situations business. He will also develop a global macro platform and other funds tailored to sovereign wealth funds.

Since 2006, Ben-Brahim has run Goldman's emerging markets trading business in London as well as an emerging markets principal investments business. Prior to Goldman, he worked with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.


Sanjiv Das will return to Citigroup Inc. as chief executive of CitiMortgage on July 16, succeeding Bill Beckmann, who left the firm. He will arrive from Morgan Stanley, where he was managing director in the institutional securities group.


In Hong Kong, Merrill Lynch & Co. named Antony Hung as its wealth management head in the Pacific Rim. He will remain as head of investment banking for fixed income, currencies and commodities in the Pacific Rim until a replacement is found. Hung joined Merrill in 1993.


Peter Weprin joined Cowen Group Inc. as a managing director in the capital markets group, based in New York. Weprin comes in from Sunrise Securities Corp.

On July 17, Kim Fennebresque will step down as non-executive chairman and as a board member of Cowen Group. John Toffolon Jr. was elected to replace him.


Warburg Pincus LLC hired Scott Meyer as an entrepreneur-in-residence in New York, covering the Internet sector. Meyer was president and CEO of About.com Inc. and worked in investment banking at Merrill Lynch & Co. and Boston Consulting Group.


In Dallas, Stephens Inc. made seven hires from Bluffview Capital LP.

Jennifer Bishop and Phyllis Riggins are managing directors in media investment banking. Kerry North is a managing director in the mergers and acquisitions group, specializing in strategic advisory and restructuring. Michael Stuart joined the new real estate investment banking practice as a managing director. Prior to working at Dresdner Kleinwort, North spent 19 years as a lawyer and was a senior corporate partner at Baker Botts LLP.

Also, Ryan Murphy comes in as a vice president, Jason Timothy as an associate and Greg Garbuz as an analyst.


RBC Wealth Management made four hires. Haitham Karaket, managing director of investment services, and senior investment adviser Barnabus Reynolds join from Bear Stearns Cos. Konstantinos Dedes, of Julius Baer Group, becomes a private banker, as does Roberto Islas, who joins from Clariden Leu.

Separately, Jim Wolfe became a managing director and head of U.S. leveraged finance at RBC Capital Markets. Wolfe spent 15 years with Bear Stearns Cos., most recently as a senior managing director in the leveraged finance group.

RBC Capital recently appointed Paul Zingarini as a managing director and head of secondary loan trading, and Richard Rothschild as a managing director in the global syndicated finance sales group. Zingarini joined from Citigroup Inc. Rothschild spent over 20 years at Citigroup.


Broadpoint Capital Inc. drafted two vice presidents for its debt capital markets division. Asa Beach and Ryan Moriarty will report to Richard Crescenzo and Douglas Scales, co-heads of the investment-grade sales department. Beach has worked at NSM Capital, at HSBC Securities USA and Citigroup Inc. Moriarty joins from Morgan Stanley, where he was a vice president in the credit sales department.


Dean Benner was brought in as executive vice president and chief investment officer of Axis Capital Holdings Ltd. Most recently, Benner was a managing director with Deutsche Asset Management.


Axa Private Equity just opened an office in Zurich. The office, managed by Martin Kessi, will oversee Axa Winterthur's existing portfolio of private equity investors. The firm also aims to secure secondary deals on private equity portfolios held by large local institutional investors.


Thompson National Properties LLC made Johnna Howard its chief financial officer. Howard was senior vice president and controller at IHP Capital Partners since 1998.

The firm recently hired Greg Genovese as president of the securities division. Previously, Genovese was senior vice president of Western markets for Grubb & Ellis Securities Inc.
